Anyone gone scuba diving yet with their Micra TPS ( the out of sight out of mind) Medtronics pacemaker? Were there any issues?

Scuba diving

I have been a certified diver since 1968. I always dive with a buddy. I now have an ICD and decided to give up scuba and replace that activity with snorkeling wearing an air filled swimmer's life vest. I have had heart events; the ICD helps protect me, but I don't want to have another event at 60 feet underwater! I would put myself at much greater risk. Plus with my condition I may not be capable of helping my scuba diving buddy. Considering my situation and my duty to my dive buddy, I will snorkel (rather than the riskier scuba) in the future. Do I believe I can scuba? I am fit and the answer is yes. But it is not worth the risks to my scuba dive buddy and myself, especially since snorkeling can be so wonderful. My wife loves to snorkel. She has always been my snorkeling buddy, knows my health condition and we will have a great time in the future.

Well, good for you Jimmy. Frankly though I wouldn't trust my wife lying next to me with a pillow much less snorkeling.

TraceyE is right, as usual, the makes and models are rated for various depths so you need to check with the manufacturer about your specific model as well as your Cardiologist just to be safe. Your device may be rated for more depth than you are
You know you're wired when...
Bad hair days can be blamed on your device shorting out.

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.

Every device is rated for a different depth so you'll want to call Medtronic and ask. I called SJM, my regular 2 lead pacer is good to 7 atmospheres, about 200 feet in saltwater.
