airport scanners

About these scanners.  Adelaide, South Australia only has old type.  So on Sunday I take daughter to catch a flight and after reading here that it is no big deal to go through scanner I though I would just do it.  I had my card in my hand ready to explain in case I 'beeped'.  A female officer stopped me, asked if I had a pacemaker.  She then said I could not walk through and would have to have the 'pat down' (which I have always had previously.)  She told me that they had had many problems with people and pacemakers going through the scanner so it was now policy that no one would be allowed.  Doesn't bother me to have a pat down, but I thought I would just let you all know.

Airport scanner

I am about to receive my first implant in a few days and have been reading just about everything I can get my hands on. I may be wrong, but I understood that, as you say,  it is not harmful for us to walk through the scanner but it might cause the alarms to go off. So WE must be harming the scanner and not the other way round. Perhaps that’s why they stopped you......to prevent damage to their equipment.

The airport is using out of date information. It's not the scanners that have changed, it's the pacers. They no longer use alloys that cause problems. Who knows? But I can tell you that is the very rare exception, not the rule. Even years ago the metal detectors didn't hurt the pacers, the very worst they could do was put it in test mode for the second it takes to walk through. I don't even mention my pacer anymore, just walk on through. I've done it at  airports, cruise ships, government buildings, concerts, amusement parts, even the White House. (I did mention it at the White House, lol, that's the the place you want to set it off). Until I got this last one, I would do the 3D scanner or ask for a pat down. Before the 3D scanner, it was year of pat downs.

Mapleshaz, we aren't going to damage their equipment. The very worst we can do it make it go beep.
