Post pacemaker surgery, Severe gas and stomach pain

Hello Everyone, I am new to this group. My father aged 60 years had gone Pacemaker surgery before 2 months from now. 3 weeks post surgery he always has severe gas problem followed by stomach pain. He feels very discomfort, suffocated and tired. Unable to sleep in night. Often he pass night sitting on bed because of gas and discomfort he feels. Doctors are saying there is no problem with Pacemaker. It's working fine. Just have simple diet. We are providing him simple food and juices, but  still no sign of recoveey. Requesting everyone to provide your suggestions to overcome it. Your advice will be highly appreciated.    Thanks.   Kumar

Maybe an elimination diet?

I'm sorry your father is having such a hard time.

I'm not a doctor, but to my knowledge, pacemakers do not commonly cause gas and stomach pain.

There may be one of more common foods that he's become sensitive to--yes, even if he was never sensitive before. I for instance have immediate gas and pain if I drink orange juice, and I've learned I can't eat anything containing wheat without digestive upset. Other people are bothered by milk and milk products. Or fruits containing pits, like cherries, peaches and mangoes. Or beans. Or anything in the cabbage family. Really, it could be just about anything.

Sometimes the simplest way to find out if one or more food are causing the problem is to try an elimination diet. You can find directions for an elimination diet online.

In addition, your father could also try taking digestive enzymes. The body makes fewer digestive enzymes as we get older.

If the problem persists, he should probably see a gastroenterologist if one is available.

Hope this helps.
