Many Shocks

I just had a lead come detached.  I was shocked continually for several minutes until we got enough magnts off our refrigerator, hour and a half later I was at the hospital and got to the hospital and had it turned off for REAL.  I now have a new ICD and I am very anxious it might happen again, although I have been assured it won't.  I guess what I need are some ideas to become less anxiious.

Thanks, Karen

It's awful when this happens

Sorry this happened to you, its an unfortunate event that happens from time to time. Know that this is certainly not a common thing. There is really no way to predict or prevent such an event, Does your Doctors office use home monitoring? Sometimes this gives a heads up on a dislodgement.  you did mention the gathering of magnets. You are one of the few patients that know that trick, thankfully it worked for you.

You could go online and buy a "doughnut" or "ring" magnet and have it on standby just in case anything like this occurs again, maybe it will put your mind at ease knowing you can quickly disable the device. However, if you do, never tape it to your body over the device, if god forbid you happen to really need the device, it wont work.
