Last night I started getting a sharp pain in the incisional area of the pacemaker. The wound itself was badly closed with skin inversion (overlapping) so now it's terribly tender and I am unable to wear anything heavy on it. Even my light duvet causes pain. That's been ongoing for a few weeks but since last night there is now pain over the entire surgical area including the incision, the exploratory area where the atrery was accessed to insert the electrode and even the 'pocket' that was made to take the device. Almost every movement hurts. Using my arm, specially anything that involves sideward, backwards or upward movements, or taking a deep breath like a yawn, a cough or a sneeze!
Tomorrow I shall get an appointment to see my GP but in the meantime, wondered if any of you fine people have ever experienced or heard of such a thing? Apart from a wound infection which doesn't seem apparent to me so far as I can see (no redness or heat) I am at a loss to figure out what is going on.

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.

Something similar happened with my 1st pacemaker, intense pain with any movement of my arm as well as not being able to comfortably wear a shirt or jacket. After seeing a number of specialists the final conclusion was neuropathy behind and around the pacemaker itself. I had to limit any movements with that arm and eventually it went away but it took many weeks if not a few months to settle down. I just had my 2nd pacemaker put in about 2 months ago and I'm starting to experience pain around the incision site and general area this time however I think I may have just lifted something that was too heavy. I hope you are able to find the cause of your pain, good luck and take care.
