FIVE WEEKS IN

It's been five weeks today since I was super-charged! I've been going to the gym since week two doing cardio - 500 calories per day. Last week I started chipping and putting on the golf course. I see my doc next week, but am wondering about a couple of things.

1. My stitches have finally dissolved and only the scar remains, but I feel a tightness and bump where the device was implanted. Will that change?

2. I don't lift heavy weights but usually do sets of curls with 15 lb dumb bells, tricep pushes with 30 lbs or so, and fly's with 60-70 for my chest. Is that something I'll be able to go back to doing?

3. On the golf course I actually started hitting half swing shots yesterday and felt pretty good. Don't want to take full swings until I see the doc next week. Any suggestions or warnings?

Thanks for any feedback.

Welcome to the Club.  It sounds like your doing great. I'm not a Doctor just had a pm for a long time.  I'm 69 and stay active.  I feel my job gets in the way of my workouts.  In regards to the 3 questions.

1. There will be a bump where the pm sits under the skin.  I don't have tightness though I think that will go away.

2.  You say you don't lift heavy but 60-70 pound fly's is heavier than most people attempt.  The people on this board that lift have no problem after they recieve a pm  We do every lift with as much as we want to lift.

3. Good you see your Doctor next week.  He'll probably tell you to go back to a full golf swing in the near future.

Seems you are well on the way to a full recovery since the implant.  I have no warnings, enjoy your life.

The tightness will go away as scar tissue builds and you get back to being active again. It'll probably ache between now and then, ice will help.

It will settle in better than it is now. It can take a few months up to a year to settle fully. Some end up with little to no bump, others aren't so lucky. It depends on your build and how the surgeon placed it.

Lifting, no restrictions here. I did push presses this morning, barbells with no rack so picked it up from the floor each round. 12 sets of 6, started with 55 and worked up to 85. I go heavier when we aren't doing so many or we're allowed to use the rack. And we were doing burpees between rounds because my coaches are evil like that.

My doc lifts all restrictions at 6 weeks except full golf swing. He says 3 months for that. Chip/pitch/putt whenever you feel up to it.

Restrictions

I'm 3 weeks post-op for pacemaker.

Doctor told me no no exercises for 6 weeks and no lifting my arm further than halfway.

i think he wants the leads from the pacemaker to adhere the o the heart.

i have a nice C2 rower just sitting in my living room. But, I am being good and resisting doing some rowing. I use to do 3-5,000 meters at a time. But the 6 was will pass. I don't want to have create a more complicated heart issue because I didn't wait. It already has been three weeks.

I am happy you are feeling great, give some thought to allowing the leads time to adhere to the heart. Once that happens, your doctor will probably have less restrictions.

i was told by a few different nurses during my overnight stay in hospital and 2 doctors -no exercise for 6 weeks and don't raise my arm more than halfway. So those instructions were clear to me.
