Pain after Pacemaker Implantation

Hutchy6640:
Extreme pain after what sounds like a generator change ("2nd pacemaker implantation") is uncommon but can happen. I would be especially wary of possible infection developing which may lead to pain and poor healing. Furthermore, if this was a new implantation involving lead placement, significant pain like you are experiencing could be related to obstruction in the vein that was used to place the pacing leads. Subclavian venous obstruction could cause pain and usually involves swelling in the upper extremity and neck on the same side device implanted. Most important, make sure the physician that implanted the device is aware of your concerns. Every time the pocket is opened, you run the risk of a device infection.
Hope this helps.
