Thanks one and all for the responce about the heart rate monitors,
Good advice I'll go about this the way I feel and forget about the numbers.
The way you are breathing and your recovery when exercising is a good indicator.

Garmin works for me....

I'm a competitive cyclist too and use a Garmin 510 with a Garmin chest-strap transmitter. I was told my readings may be off but went ahead and tried it. Seems to be giving me accurate numbers. I train roughly 10-15 hours a week and primarily use HR zones for my daily training effort goals. My pacemaker rarely kicks in while riding.
Cheers, Mike

I have a Garmin 520 and have had very good luck with Scosche Rhythm arm band. The Scosche in not a stand alone monitor, it is only an arm band not a chest strap. Since you have a Garmin it should work fine. After my pacemaker was replaced in Feb. of 2017. My Polar monitor did not work very well after that. I am also a master cyclist. No longer racing but still actively riding.
