insomnia, vomiting dizzy spells very weak and tired all the time after pacemaker installation

I have been dealing with heart failure for a year now since Oct 2017.   I have had 2 previous open heart surgeries. a pig valve was installed in 1992 and than a mechanical heart valve was installed in 2009. I started having heart failure that started as a cold than recently at age 39.  I just got really sick here in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. It was deemed heart failure with my heart rate dropping to the 20's and 30's often. The Doctors decided to put in the first MRI compatible pacemaker in Canada on may 25th 2018. After the pacemaker was installed it was I thought going to be a 6 week recovery than continue with life and work etc. That did not happen at all unfortunately.

I became extremely sick with dizzy spells, chest pains every day, Fainting and going in and out of consciousness at times. I also gained a really bad habit called Insomnia and could not sleep at all. Some days I went 2 whole days without sleeping at all. I even talked to a few doctors that prescribed 2 pills of Temazepam 30 mg, Zopiclone 7.5 mg and 150 mg of melatonin to take every night. I still couldn't sleep after that heavy sleeping cocktail dose!!  I'm still dealing with all the health issues plus now I have lots of problems swallowing keeping fluid and food down and lost my voice which also all started the day the pacemaker was installed!!

Could it be that the lower limit of pacemaker is set too high at 60 not allowing me to sleep so it does and self test and gives me a shock or brings me up to speed? I have no idea to be honest.  For a year now I have not had much luck with the doctors here in Regina/Canada and one left me for dead causing more problems with the heart including scar tissue and dropped me after doing 2 unsuccessful heart ablations than refused to ever speak to me again. His name is Dr. Omar Sulton and several others have complained about him and his scary practice.

3 different doctors including a nose and throat specialist confirmed that my issues with my throat and loss of voice and vomiting constantly is not a G.I issue and told me to take results of tests specialists results and bring them to a cardiologist or a thoracic surgeon as its not a viral or gastrologist issue.  The pacemaker clinic here, the surgeon that installed pacemaker and one cardiologist involved refuse to do any further investigations on this issue as to why I am really sick most days in bed with no energy at all including symptoms I already listed above.  I got so frustrated I even called Patient advocate services who are usually there to help people in hospital and patients that are having issues in general with their health concerns and medical needs NOT being met. Needless to say they did not do much for either.  I'm still currently sick with 3 pages of symptoms including really bad Insomnia that has not been resolved.  I really need help to resolve these issues and would appreciate any guidance or help here in Canada as well as some advice as to what I should do

Thank you very much. Please contact me directly as I would really like to hear what you have to say or post comment.

Thank you

That's a lot to unpack!

First, "heart failure" is not a low heart rate, rather the failure to pump enough blood to supply the needs of the body and keep fluid out of the lungs. It's typically caused by cardiomyopathy, or an enlargement of the heart. Cardiomyopathy and heart failure may be caused by a number of things, so is more of a description than a diagnosis. A low heart rate is called "Bradycardia" which can also be caused by a number of things, principally "sick sinus syndrome" or a heart block. Since you already have a pacemaker, it seems they're already treating you for this, albeit unsuccessfully.

As far as your needs not being met, there must be more to this story (or Canadian socialized healthcare is even worse than its worst detractors say).

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
