ICD/Pacemaker

I just joined!  I got my ICD last summer 2017 and this summer got an ICD/pacemaker becuase I have heart failure, afib and an irregular heart beat. I just had 4-5 taps/thumps to my ICD/pacemaker.  It didn't hurt, but I did notice it.  What was it?  Anyone have the same think?

Pacing kicking in?

It may be that it went in to pacing mode.  Some people feel it, some don't.  Some get used to it, some don't.  Make note of it and discuss with your doctor and they can compare to the file they download and hopefully give you a better answer.   Good luck!

Thanks! It scared me because I’ve never felt it before. This is all new to me!

ICD and pacing

I get near passing out when I get paced out of ventricular arrhythmias.  I don't notice any thumpting.  The interrogation report would show it.  If you can send a transmission, send one to your EP office to satisfy your curiosity.

Thumping

When I first got my ICD in 2010, I noticed a "thumping" every so often.  At the hospital right after implantation they called doctors in to adjust "something" and it went away.  But every so often I would feel a faint thumping, more or less in a pattern.  Didn't bother me and I never remembered to ask at checkups.  When I FINALLY asked the technician who was doing a check-up once what that was, she said it's the device self-checking itself; that it does periodic self-checks.  I just got a battery switch in May of 2018.  I haven't really noticed any thumping yet.  Ask your EPI if you're concerned.  Write down your questions and keep them with you so you won't forget like me.

I would literally lay still while it lasted thinking it was going to go "off"!!!  Hope this helps.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
