Hi all, hope you are all well.
Well tomorrow is implant day, and I have to say I'm really nervous. I have read so many posts on here, but I still feel anxious. I know that the PM will make me feel so much better, I have heart block, so faint at the weirdest of moments.
I will be logging on frequently over the next few days.
Talk to u soon

Hi Fiona,
I also agree with Smitty and Michelle. Like she said I got myself more worked up over it than the procedure was.If having pain ask for something. I was having some pain at site when I arrived back to my room and they brought in some Tylenol. I ask for some Percocet as that is what I had been given after my other surgeries and after checking with Dr. I got it. I wanted to be comfortable at the hospital and get some rest. I only needed Tylenol when I got home. You know your body and everyone is different. Remember you are paying them! I just had my PM implanted 5 1/2 wks. ago. and I totally get where you are at ! I will be praying for you and keep us posted.

Hello Fiona - At last the day is here and you will soon have your bionic part! I think I was fortunate in that my PM was done on an emergency basis and I had no time to think about or anticipate what might happen. By this time tomorrow it will be behind you and you will wonder why you were so worried! For me the procedure happened so quickly that I was out then awake in the recovery room and a nurse was standing by with the cup of coffee I had requested just prior to going to the OR. Very little pain after - it was relieved by Tylenol but as the others have said we are all different. We will all be thinking of you and you will feel yourself lifted up in prayers. Let us know as soon as you feel up to it that you are well. God bless you.

Hi Fiona,
I know this is easier said than done but don't be nervous. I promise you it is not a bad procedure and the prepping will take more time than the actual implanting of the pacemaker. And yes you will feel better, but don't be disappointed if it takes a few days.
The first settings on our pacemakers are not always the best ones for a particular person. Getting the one best for you is really a trial and error process, but that is the way it is for everyone. The doctor gets lucky and hits it quicker for some and it take a few tries for others.
We will looking forward to your first message after you get your little electronic helper. Just think, you will know how the Energizer Bunny feels with all his energy in a couple of days.
Good luck,
Smitty

Hi Fiona,
I have to agree with everything Smitty said and would also love to share one piece of advice that I wish I'd been given--don't be shy about asking for pain medication if you need it right after the surgery. Apparently my doctor had authorized pain meds but the nurses would only administer them if I asked. It didn't occur to me that I would need to ask (I guess I wasn't thinking too clearly as the initial drugs wore off!), so I spent more time than I should have in pain. That said, you may not even need medication; everyone heals differently and I hope your recovery is quick and painless!
Hang in there,
Michelle

Hello Fiona, My pacemaker is scheduled for August 21. It's all I've been thinking about.. I wonder how things turned out for you. What do you remember. Was it quick? I hope you are doing well and adjusting.

Dear Fiona,
I got my first PM implanted on June 27th. I had to get it bc I was fainting almost ever day for 3 years. I had no warning signs from the fainting, so I was getting injured almost daily.
I am 80% faint free, and the Doctors think it will only get better. I am so Glad I got my PM!
I was very nervous for the surgery, but things went so well and my recovery from pain was almost instant. I only had to take Ibuprofin for 3 days and then I was fine. The recovery for me had highs and lows, sometimes I felt very tired so i rested. Just do what your body tells you to do.
Everyone heals differently so don't worry if your recovery seems different from others. Know that this PM is there to help you...in a way it is your life line.
Good Luck with everything, and keep us updated.
We will be thinking if you!
