starting to feel better after 6 weeks.

I'm staring to feel better after getting my PM 6 weeks ago. When I felt like I was short of breath and had difficulty climbing stairs my cardiologist had me do a nuclear stress test. I lasted 50 seconds on the treadmill. The stress showed that there might be a "mild" blockage so the cardiologist wants me to do a catheterization. It is scheduled for the 17th of July (next tuesday). Afew days ago I played golf and felt pretty good.
I was able to take a 2 mile walk today and walked up the stairs and did not breath too heavy. I'm thinking about canceling the catheterization. Maybe it takes about 6 or more weeks to recover from the PM insert. I am 74 years old.
Any comments ?

Having A Cath

by SMITTY - 2007-07-14 04:07:36

Hello Steve,

I’ll keep this short because it is just about my nap time, but have the cath. If you haven’t had one before, a cath is not bad. It usually means a stay overnight in the hospital to be sure there is no bleeding from the incision they have to make to insert the cath. Pain is very little if any at all. And a cath is a hundred times better than any kind of stress test for determining if and how much blockage there may be in the arteries of your heat.

I consider my self an authority on caths. I am 78 and I had my 18th cath since 1982 on April 26 of this year. During that one they implanted my 4th stent.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

Go have the Cath

Hello Steve,

Have the cath done. I just had my 3rd one done in May and I hate tests but it is not bad at all. It was done in the morning and then stayed for 6 hours with weight on groin area and went home that day. At any age 74 or I'm 49 I sure would want to safe than sorry. That is how many heart problems start and people tend to not go and get check the minute they feel better. I pray that you decide to have the test done. Good luck and keep in touch.

Had the Cath

I had the Cath done yesterday and the good news is that I have no blocked arteries. The cardiologist said if I still have heavy breathing then maybe some fine-tuning will be needed for my PC. I'm thinking that maybe I'm expecting to feel better too soon... My CD was inserted May 30, 2007. But I do feel better knowing that I'm clean.

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
