MRI

Does anyone reading this have any information on hospital MRI departments that are known for excellence in performing MRIs on patients with implantable devices (PM and Leads) in the NY/NJ/PA area??

MRI

If your PM and leads are "MRI conditional" any hospital with a cariac unit and an MRI machine should be able to do it.  The hard part is getting all the players (radiologist, your cardiologist or EP, and a PM tech) on the same page. If the first two are OK with it and the third is available, in a half hour it's all done.

If the "MRI Conditional" conditions aren't met, it gets to be a stickier wicket. You're pobably going to have to get your cardiologist/EP on your side to find a radiologist who will stick his neck out. The problem isn't so much the technology, rather the politics of it all.

Medical school affiliated hospital

Glancing over your previous posts, apparently you have questions about the MRI compatibility of your pacemaker and leads, and where the MRI should be conducted. If you're not getting answers that are helpful to you from your cardiologist, I think a second opinion is in order.

I am not familiar with New Jersey but given the number of medical school hospitals in the general area (Rutger's for a start), and more if you look as far as New York or New England, I would think finding a good EP at a medical school affiliated hospital to advise you, and a fully competent MRI suite, would be easy.

I live in a medium sized city with good hospitals, but I have found it worth my while to travel 40 miles to be seen for my heart issues at Duke. If I ever needed an MRI that's where I would go.

MRI at Duke...

by BOBTHOM - 2022-02-18 09:32:45

I just had an MRI dine at Duke hear in North Carolina.  My ICD is MRI compatable as are my device leads.  They ran my ICD through it's paces then turned it off.  They performed the MRI, then connected to the ICD, turned it on and ran it through all of it's tests again to confirm it was working properly and off I went.  As for finding some place in NJ, there are MANY options, I had some heart issues addressed at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick and others I know saw doctors at Deborah Heart and Lung.

Good luck getting your issues addressed!
