PM pinching

Hi

Not been on for a while, I hope your all doing well.

Had a new lead fitted just over 12 months ago, since then I get a pinch when I move in set ways, I started to gard my movements and my shoulder became stiff,as I have had a frozen shoulder I didnt want to go down that path so I joined Active life at local sport centre I have been doing gentle stretch and Tia Chi for 3 months but feel it hasn't helped.I feel as is the lead by my clavicle catches on something (don't know if that poss) but its a real big pint

Frozen shoulder

Sorry but "gentle stretching" isn't going to get it done.  If you indeed have frozen shoulder there is a lot more needed than "gentle stretching" to get back to normal.  Sorry, but involves some serious physical therapy and that means pain.  Nothing "gentle" about it. The longer you wait, the worse it's going to be and left long enough there may be permanent loss of mobility.  Frozen shoulder, or any joint for that matter, is serious stuff.

No, your leads are not "catching" on your clavicle.  SInce you have frozen shoulder, I'd be looking there.  There could easily be nerves pinched.  See a good PT ASAP. "Gentle stretching" isn't going to cut it.

Hi

Unfortunately you have misunderstood my post,I don't have a frozen shoulder,I have had one in the past and the gentle exercise is to avoid this happening again.

I have a feeling of pinching just below my clavicle  when I make certain movements and find turning over in bed difficult, its not so bad that i need to run off to Dr just wounded if anyone else experienced this and do i need to worry.

Thanks for your reply tho

Pinching pain

by Gemita - 2022-03-07 12:02:28

Hello Maureen,

Nice to hear from you and I hope other than your “pinching” discomfort, you are doing well with your new lead and experiencing fewer symptoms.

It is hard to know what has happened Maureen to cause this.  Would it be nerve or other tissue triggering this?  I certainly experienced sudden pulling, pinching type sensations for the first year or so following my dual chamber pacemaker implant (and still do after 4 years).  Not sure if this was caused by my leads as tissue was healing or by the suture that held my device in place.  All I know is that on sudden turning or stretching I could trigger sharp sensations and I found myself doing a lot of avoiding just like you.

I expect you have had checks to see whether pacing is within the normal limits, that your leads, battery and settings are all okay.  If you are worried, you could always ask for an X-ray of the device and leads to look for any visible signs of movement from the implanted site.  Just know that it may all be a part of the complex healing process.  I attach a link of a recent post on pinching pain, so you will see how common it is:-

Time and Doctors Visits

by MinimeJer05 - 2022-03-07 13:33:04

Hello Maureen,

As Gemita and Agent have said, this is likely going to require some time and some doctors visits. Do engage your medical team and don't wait much longer as asking questions without the ability to get answers is going to be the worst of it.

I had my PM implanted in Sept of last year and I still don't sleep as great on my left (PM side). I know if I lay on the left for too long it becomes sore and irritated. I also know laying on my back and applying and pressure towards my left (PM) shoulder can also make me feel uncomfortable.

I normally just re-adjust and go about my day, but it does bother me more at night as I am a side (left) sleeper and am having difficulties adjusting to my right side or even my back.

I also have sleep apnea to deal with (waiting on my CPAP) and hope that the machine will be the "fix" I need to a good night's sleep.

Do engage your doctors and ask these questions as it could be nerve damage and healing or something else (which they can hopefully catch).

Take care

Jer

Pinching

by maureen.coxsey - 2022-03-13 15:13:08

Thanks everyone I have asked my GP to refer me back to the surgeon . I know this is not a tec problem as I feel really good as far as the PM is concerned. I think its about the position the pm is in, its supposed to be under the muscle and I  sort of think it is ? but the lead is very promenant and very tender to touch (done in 2020) GP didnt think it looked right so will waite and see what Surgeon thinks don't want to be opened up again but I have 8 year life left on the battery so that a long time to curb my exercise and movements xx good luck to u  all

You know you're wired when...

You invested in the Energizer battery company.
