Cold after PM implant

I have a question... I had PM surgery on 5/20 and since then I seem to be cold a great deal of the time. Even when my husband is comfortable, I will be sitting covered with a blanket. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this -- or maybe it's quite normal and I just don't know it. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Cold after implant

I doubt that it has anything to do with the pacemaker itself but who knows?  I'm always freezing.  I take a sweater with me to restaurants when we go out, even in the Georgia summer. I have some very warm sweaters and sweat shirts for  the winter.

My feet are OK but my hands are like icebergs. I think it has to do with walking building up leg muscles and veins but my arms aren't used as much.  Just a guess.

Have you checked thyroid function ?

Pat I would tell your doctor about your symptoms and he may want to carry out a few checks. Hypothyroidism for example can cause coldness and other symptoms.  I wouldn't assume this is necessarily pacemaker related, although you don't give us any information on why you needed a pacemaker?

I can feel cold from my beta blocker which slows everything down or it could be one of your other meds too causing coldness/circulatory problems, especially if they are taken to reduce blood pressure and heart rate but your GP could check for many possible conditions including ruling out anaemia and infection.

Do you happen to know what your pacemaker Lower Rate Limit is set at?  Sometimes if this is set too low it won't be helping.  A slightly higher setting can make all the difference to body temperature. In winter I take tepid sips water throughout the day to stay warm and hydrated.  Avoid drinking too much alcohol or too many caffeinated drinks since these may contribute to either dehydration or affect blood pressure and heart rate.  Stay safe and warm

You have pegged me. I have hypothyrodism, but my endo is happy with dosage of levothyroxine, but this could be an issue. I never thought about my beta blocker adding to body thermostat. Nor do I know what my lower rate is set at, but you can bet I will ask at my next appt. This pacemaker is so new to me. Thanks for all your talking points. You have given me things to consider and talk to doc about and check up on.

There are some food that after i eat them, cause me to me  be both cold and tried.  When i previouly worked in the 60's my employees for Xmas gave me a sweater.  So i would not keep turning the thermostat up.

You might keep a food journal after you eat.  Writing down everything including spices,  herbs, salt etc.  To see if any reactions.  Then of course elimanate that food.

possible I guess

well if the pacer makes your heart more efficient then it might be pumping less and then you might feel colder.  its a stretch, it is likely not related to the pacer.   You can always ask the doc though.

You know you're wired when...

You fondly named your implanted buddy.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
