update to hurricane Ian

So far as you can tell electic still on now 6amEST, Wed Sept 28,2022.  Slept with the window blinds closed. Flashlight near by. Slept at least 3 hours at a time.  Knew the wheat would help and plan to eat Rye bread(wheat)and drinking 16oz of water each time.  Some times with other foods and mostly plain. Rye bread has less salt per slice than pizza. Again to sleep off and on as it makes the waiting go faster.

Now Ian is someplace nearly 170miles south of me to make landfall. Unfortuanately closer to where Marybird is. Which means hopefully not as much rain or higher gust for me.

When awake am taking many deep breaths and trying not to stress about did i make the right decision to stay?. Will make sure to drink plenty of water and walk around the house trying not to sit much.

You are both very brave

New to Pace and Marybird,

I am relieved to hear from you and to know that for the moment you are still safe. You have shown us all how to behave when faced with adversity, how to prepare for it and to accept the things we cannot change.  I hope the aftermath of Storm Ian will not be as brutal as forecast and that you will not have to face any major changes to your lives while any clean up is in progress.

Yes New to Pace it would appear you made the right decision to stay at home and I hope your luck continues.  With a storm of this intensity you would be advised to stay inside until you are certain the worst has passed.  Sleep as much as you can to recharge your batteries and to keep that heart quiet.

Good luck and my love to both of you as you battle with Hurricane Ian xx

i remember Andrew, was a volunteer with the Red Cross and they wanted me to go.  But the thought of living in a tent with the comforts.  At that time was remodeling my home.  And guess what i did not have the comforts that i thought i would miss if in Miami .

So sorry that IAN has moved southward wish it would have never been a wave in the first place.  Can see the winds now that it is daylight.  Looked at my pool still has about another 4 or 5 inches before it crests on the pool deck.  Hope the drains will catch the water before the house.

Do remember to keep drinking water as much as you can.  That should help us to try to forget all the water that is flowing around us.  Expect we should loose electric.  Just not knowing is stressful.  But we should not worry as  to when .

Just ate breakfast, hope what i ate will get me to nap some while waiting.

good luck to you and hope your home and mine stay safe..

big storm

by Tracey_E - 2022-09-28 10:39:02

We are on the east coast and already getting bands with heavy rain. I can't imagine how it is closer! We had two tornado warnings overnight, one flipped a bunch of cars about half an hour from me. Two nearby neighborhoods already lost power. Ours blinked but came back on. Stay safe!

tornados

did read that your coast will be getting the tornadoes. Sorry about that.

Sitting in a room with the blinds closed on one window and boxes covering the other window.  That way do not see what is going on.Of course do not hear.  Guess at this time it  is a blessing.  Does not help with my claustophia.  But am willing to do that so i do not know what is going on outside.

Last i saw at least for me at least the worse should be over by midnight.  Lights have been blinking.  Guess when they go off if in daylight time to play a game of scrabble guess who will win no matter what side of the board am sitting at.

This is a wait and see  and try for all of us who are dealing with this now and to those who will later.  To stay calm and stress free.

New to pace, glad to see by your last post you have power and are in doing  well.  I stayed alone in my laundry room during Hurricane Jeanne and slept on the washer and dryer.  Younger then of course.  Best to you.

Stay safe

Flo you to to be  safe.  As the east coast was the first place to get the tornadoes.

So far have both internet and power. Not sure how long as computer screen went dark briefly.  Just looked at weather.com and for now for me in Sarasota all should start to slow down around 9pm tonight.  Thank goodness it keeps starting to slow down sooner.

Thinking i should get storm shutters and when they say maybe i should get on a plane and fly someplace away from here.  Since am not getting any younger.  Plus it will be less stressful for the Afib bouts.

Don't know if you're a music fan, but in times of trouble such as these I turn to some good ol' blues. Susan Tedeschi's It's Raining is a fave of mine but there are so many others out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzW1NF8N3BY

Hoping all goes well for you.

storm shutters

by Tracey_E - 2022-09-30 12:20:35

It is a relief having shutters, definitely a good investment and invaluable for peace of mind. If you can swing it, we got impact windows and LOVE them. We originally chose them becaue this house is two story and my husband used to travel a lot. Putting the shutters up is a two person job and I'm not climbing on a roof so I wanted to be able to do it myself. But the glass means never having to make that call, put them up or wait. So much less stress! It takes me less than half an hour to get my house storm ready.

If you are alone, I would not hesitate to evacuate next time. Why struggle and be afraid, then deal with the mess and power outages after,  when you can get out?

You know you're wired when...

You are always wired and full of energy.
