Hi all
This is my first post I am wondering if any members have had their pacemaker removed due to heart recovering and able to work on its own?
Also do you ever have a pacemaker replaced ie every 10 years or is it a small Nick to change the battery only every 10 years.

Just had my pacemaker replaced

I have been paced 100% since a surgical complication in 2014, when a mechanical heart valve was inserted, and recent checks showed the pacemaker was getting towards the end of battery life and needed replacing. There were a few months left, but they did the replacement at London's "Barts" hospital - St Bartholomew's, a specialist heart centre on Monday. The operation lasted about an hour, ann was done under local anaesthetic. I was discharged the same day, and there has been no pain at any point - amazing!
They replace the whole box, but the leads were checked and found to be fine, so no changes there. I can take the dressing off tomorrow - 5 days after the op.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.

I have never heard that one gets a pacemaker removed. Since generally the reason one gets one is for slow heart beats. The battery generally lasts 10 years. I have heard that is easier that the orginal implant.
