Chest infection and pacemaker refit tomorrow

I had a pacemaker fitted end of September. Unfortunately it didn't connect properly and one of the wires is not working.

I am due to have this corrected tomorrow. However on Friday I saw my G.P because I have come down with a chest infection. The doctor thought it was adult croup.I am now on steroids and antibiotics The G.P didn't advise to cancel tomorrow's cardiac appointment, but since Iam not much better, should I still be having the pacemaker surgery?

I would cancel to be safe

In your shoes, I would cancel tomorrow's procedure until you are feeling better and you are off steroids and antibiotics, especially if the procedure is not an immediate emergency?   If you go ahead with treatment without resolve of your current infection, your risk for other complications from the procedure may well increase.

I would speak to your cardiologist/EP tomorrow as early as possible and seek their advice but to firmly tell them that you are not feeling well enough to have the procedure.  I wish you a speedy recovery

Thanks

Appreciate your advice

Ask the EP

You should consult with the doctor's office doing the surgery. They have their own protocol. My EP checked extensively with both blood and urine tests to rule out infection before he would proceed. If you're on antibiotics for a long enough time, and the need to correct things is urgent, they might proceed. However they may want to wait til you're better first.

Surgery is tomorrow so I would call their emergency number today and ask so they can schedule accordingly.

How are you?

Update

I did go for the surgery. The doctor was quite happy to do.it after my tests came back normal.

However the intravenous antibiotics reacted with the antibiotics I had been given for the chest infection. I  was sick and they abandoned the procedure, which will be rescheduled for a few weeks time

Ah geez

Thanks so much for responding. I'm sorry to hear of your reaction. Hopefully the next go round will do the trick. Be well and God Bless!
