Sleeplessness

I had my pacemaker procedure three years ago and it was a new life given to me then, I can do so much without running out of breath and am really happy about it.

Recently I found it very difficult to sleep at night, my quality of sleep has gone down dramatically and begins to worry.

Has anyone had similar experienced before and what have you done to solve it, please?

What Has Changed?

by MinimeJer05 - 2022-12-18 22:29:07

Hello,

Can you explain what has changed? Are you waking up feeling out of breath, are you tossing and turning, do you get jolted awake?

I discovered shortly after getting my PM installed that I had some pretty bad sleep apnea. Took a sleep study and got my CPAP not too long after and  my sleep dramatically improved. It's something a general doctor could refer you to at least eliminate that as a possibility.

Take care

Jer

Sleep

I was used to Bradycardia and had to have my PM cranked up to avoid PVCs.  At 80bpm I had a hard time sleeping.  My EP changed my resting rate to 50bpm at night.  I'll be in trouble if I ever go around the world.  😁

Hi Jer,

Many thanks for your reply. No, just tossing and turning in bed all night wide awake and not feeling tired in the morning as well.

Cheers

Are you on any meds?

FEO, you haven't provided any information about yourself, although I appreciate there is no requirement to do so, but it would help.  For example, are you taking any meds?

A sleep consultant once told me that beta blockers could affect sleep, making it difficult to fall asleep, to stay asleep or to have a good quality of sleep.  He told me that beta blockers use up our melatonin supplies/reduce the production of melatonin (the sleep hormone), and when these supplies are exhausted, sleep is naturally affected.  I am sure there are other meds out there that can cause insomnia too, so if you are on meds, I would ask your GP for a review.

Both my husband and I are on Bisoprolol (a cardio selective beta blocker) and there is no doubt that, particularly for my husband who is on a higher dose of this med, his sleep is badly affected.  He also gets vivid dreams, or even nightmares from some of his meds, so it can be a difficult problem to manage.

Both Jer and AgentX86 have provided good information.  A sleep study is certainly the way to go if you want to get answers for your sleeplessness.  I also experienced difficulties with pacing at first, adjusting to a higher heart rate at night although I see you are not new to pacing.  I felt over warm too with a higher heart rate, making it difficult to fall asleep.  I would ask for a referral to see a sleep consultant if this continues.

I wish you a good night's sleep since I know how vital it is to wake feeling refreshed

Thanks Gemita the meds am on are for Blood Pressure (1) 1 x 5mg Linagliptin tab per day. (2) 1 x 30mg Lisinopril tab per day.

My diabetes nurse asked me to stop taking metformin few weeks ago after I complained bitterly I thought it caused my sleeplessness and after I stopped taking metformin, its makes no difference, I was on 2 x 500mg morning and 2 x 500 mg night.

I've been sleeping terribly since I got the PM. Also, got new meds then of course. It seems that my nose gets blocked when I lie down forcing me to breath thru my mouth, My mind runs like squirrel cage a lot too. I thinnk it's not apnea since there is no "catching", just plugged nose air ways (like an allergy might do).

You know you're wired when...
