update to my tests for ferritin and C-reactive Protein cardiac

The doctor recommends green veggies and lean protein.  which means i have to leave my veggie lifestyle after 30+ years.  Thank goodness hopefully will be for only 3 months.

I got back the results from the Food Sensivity test, which showed me why i reacted to some of the foods that have been eating.

She did say i need to  take EPH/DHA a fish oil or Algae Oil.  Said i read online that fish oil can cause A-Fib.  Since i do not need that, will try the Algae Oil in the oil form.

In the column of foods that i have to avoid for 3 months of the some of my favorites Artichokes, Walnuts and Cane Sugar (which is in all my snacks) should loose some weight, and Tapioca(which is in Pastries , pizza mixes etc).

Am not sensitive to Wheat and can eat Gluten again Yea!

Am sensitve to Casein and Whey now have to avoid cows milk( finally an not allergic any more) and goats and sheeps milk.  Which is good as that is another food item that the dr. said to avoid. 

Will be good to see if this new way for me decreases the number of Afib episodes for me.  My next remote transmission is March 21.

I know many do not believe in this  type  of testing and that is ok, for me it works.

Hi NTP, 

Changing back from veggie to eating lean protein will be a significant change for you.  How do you feel about that? Did they say why you need to include lean protein now?   Your iron results were high enough. 

Re: Algae Oil - sounds like a sensible swap for the fish oils but if you're including lean protein now would eating oily fish be a better option? I wonder what the algae oil will taste like. (It sounds revolting - sorry!) 

Just to clarify if you are sensitive to whey and casein, this means no cow, goat or sheep milk right?  What are the alternatives for you?

Cane sugar and tapioca are in lots of manufactured foodstuffs I believe. That will be challenging to avoid.  Lots more cooking from scratch by the sound of it!  

Artichokes and walnuts will be easier to knock off the list.  Somebody told me that brazil nuts are a great nut to eat in small quantities for max benefits. Would that be a suitable replacement for the walnuts ?

Dear New to Pace,

I see that the doctor recommends a green vegetable and lean protein diet for 3 months to see whether your recent abnormal blood values for several tests, including Ferritin and C-reactive protein, improve.  For peace of mind and certainly for your own well being, I would think this is a small price to pay to keep you safe, wouldn’t you say?  You might be pleasantly surprised to find that you will feel so much better with a change in diet.  Perhaps we all need to do this sometimes or to look at our lifestyle in general.  Can do no harm?

I am glad you are not sensitive to Wheat, so that will make your diet more enjoyable.

As to how well your dietary changes will help control Afib is uncertain, but if dietary changes can improve your well being in general, it can only be a beneficial exercise.  I think you are very brave dear New to Pace and a fighter.  It is not easy to change the habits of a lifetime and I wish you all the very best of luck and success.  I will private message you later

Thanks Penguin for you comments, yes it will be hard to eat hopefully it will be for only the 3 months.  Recall years back when this was suggested to me.  tried cooking the chicken breast in the microwave was so bad never ate.  Yes would be better to eat oily fish, but am not sure am willing to do that every couple of days.  Have been trying out salmon(it is on the every 4 day list).did ask the butcher to remove the skin off the small pieces that i am trying.  Do not eat farm raised salmon.  Beef is another that has to be avoided for 3 months did not eat anyway.

Algae well i will see how that goes. will keep everyone posted as to how i do.plan on trying the drops.

Have been using alternative milks  for years so that is not a problem for me.  Except the Almond or Coconut milks are every  couple of days.  since they do not have perservatives most have to be consumed in 7 days.  There are other milks such as Oat, and other nut milks.

Have purged my pantry and freezer of all the food/snacks that contained Cane Sugar or Tapicoa. Giving to our local food bank.  Some to my Doctors office staff.

thanks Gemita, yes they say it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  Guess the same goes for me.  The changes are the removal of the Cane Sugar  that is used in the snacks i eat.  The Tapicoa that is in all the baked goods i eat. 

Previously was allergeric to Wheat and ate the alternatives.  Glad am not anymore is how i got into eating pizza.  Now that i again can not have diary there goes the cheese again.

Lean meats

I do some very easy oven meals to get protein in:

cookie sheet w foil on, oven 400 degrees 

Lay on sheet-boneless skinless chicken drizzle w olive oil, sprinkle w lemon pepper seasoning 

cook thirty minutes, flip cook thirty minutes 

Throw in a potato rubbed with olive oil and sea salt on a rack on another flat pan and cook it at the same time. You can add asparagus or Brussels sprouts too on this sheet but only add them the last 20 or 30 minutes and watch they don't over cook. 
 

Salmon-leave the skin on. Put it on a foil lined cookie sheet with the skin down.  Drizzle w olive oil. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes or so. When it's done the skin will stick to the foil and the salmon easily flakes off. 
 

Shrimp-stir fry some vegetables in olive oil and toss in shrimp. I also stirfy in olive oil anything I like-black olives, onion, peppers, mushrooms and add shrimp then toss with pasta 
 

You will get the hang of it. I do a lot of oven meals and stirfry. Any lean protein stirfried with olive oil and cut up vegetables. I add low sodium soy sauce.

Bake a sweet potato and cook some spinach or make a spinach salad. Turkey is easy and my guy likes Turkey sausage or ground turkey chili. I have made turkey burgers too.

I don't do microwave cooking. It changes the texture of things.

Thanks Lavender for those recipes on how to cook.  Since it has been many years of not cooking lean proteins could not remember.  will slowly drift into the cooking of these.
