POST PM IMPLANT

Had a Medtronic W1DR01 PM implanted one week ago today. Everything is fine. I am noticing a rash on my chest up to near my neck and down around my armpit. Anyone ever experience this? I'm just using Benydryl for the itch. It's better when I wake up in the morning. Very strange.

Bob, I wouldn't self treat when you don't know what is causing the rash.  It could be dangerous or make it worse.  You need a doctor's opinion and quickly.  Have you started any new meds?  Some of our meds can cause a rash.  I suppose you are worried about an allergic reaction from your pacemaker.  This would be rare.  More likely caused perhaps by any disinfecting agents used to clean the area during your implant procedure or caused by anaesthetic/pain medication.  Please let us know what the doctor says and I hope it clears quickly

I am not worried about an allergic reaction. I'm sure it's something topical. I do have a medical background so I'm sure it's not a rejection or infection issue. I have already reached out to my EP for an assessment. Thanks for your comments

i found out i am allergic to the  surgical glue that was used to close the incision.  I asked what those bumps were and was told they would go away.  Well they did as soon as i was able to get the  d.... glue off.  Also had the itch that was how i knew.  Took my allergy supplements and that helped.  But i soften the glue by putting hot  water on each location.  Until they were soft enough to pull off.                                                                                         Now carry a sheet that says am allergic to that substance.  Along with my reaction.

I am guessing it could be the antiseptic solution they prepped you with, or perhaps the sticky transparent drape they place over the operative site. I don't know if you are allowed to get the wound wet yet, but when you can, I would wash off that area.

STUBBORN INCISION

by Bob K - 2023-12-17 08:10:10

i am now five weeks post PM implant. The implant itself is fine and there are no cardiac issues. There is a very small section of the incision in the middle, about 3/4cm that closes, then opens, then closes, then opens,m etc.  There is no infection. Even if I don't get it wet, it just won't heal completely. Has anyone ever experienced this? Going to see the doc again for assessment.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
