Sotalol vs metoprolol

Thanks to all who posted about these medicines. I learned enough that I feel comfortable asking my doctor to put me back on metoprolol.

Sotalol vs Metoprolol

Hi

Sorry I missed your last thread but here are my 2 cents. I was started on Sotalol 80 mg BID for PAF as an outpatient with f/u 12 lead ECG daily x 3 days. After that, I used to check QTc on my Kardia app daily which is quite accurate and reliable. The major difference between the two drugs is that Sotalol is an antirrhythmic drug with strong BB properties while Metoprolol is just a BB. My HR used to drop in the 40s on Sotalol. I didn't have pacemaker at the time. So my Cardiologist switched me to Rhythmol which is also both an antiarrythmic and a weak beta blocker. Unfortunately Rhythmol gave me a bitter taste in mouth. So I discontinued it and switched myself to Metoprolol Succinate. So that's an option for you to try Rhythmol or Flecainide either on a daily basis or pill in-pocket approach. I know people who take it that way and are satisfied with the results. Please discuss options with your provider before making any changes.
