hot tub question

Has anyone had any experience with their pacemaker and time spent in a hot tub?

I was at a resort once and used their indoor jacuzzi. Apparently I was sitting quite close to the motor of the unit and I got shocks in my heart! Needless to say, I got out of the tub and when I moved away from the source, the shocks ceased.

It's probably a good idea when using a jacuzzi to make sure the motor encasement is far enough away from your pacemaker site (i.e., installing the motor in the closet at the furthest end of the tub with you sitting at the end farthest away from the motor.

Just my personal experience.

The electronics in your pacemaker is designed to work at a much higher temperature than normal body heat. Your own circulation keeps the body cool athough it is less effective close to the surface. You only need keep your distance from that pump if near. Say 1 foot away.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
