Hi pooh257!
if you are looking for help and support this is the place to be you will find everthing you need here and heaps of a good advice and there is seldom a question that goes unanswered.
Personally I cant see why you cant go back to being a police officer I could perhaps see a problem with the radio's you use messing up you pacemaker?? and don't accidently shoot yourself with the taser gun!!!!!!!!.
but you just need to find all these things out .I there is a police officer on site you will hear from them you can be sure of that best of luck.. Peter

Whoaa people.... let's not assume that a question is being asked for all the wrong reasons.

All sorts of people.... short, thin, tall, round, drs. nurses Moms and Dads, preachers and YES even Police officers have pacemakers just to name a occupations. The list is endless.

Peter has given excellent advise. I can tell you Pooh257, that yes, there is an officer (maybe more) that visits here and is a very nice person. Seems to me that he is on the East Coast of the US. Keep asking and you ,might try a search for your area in the member list.

There are also a few firemen and a EMS pacers

Best of luck to you!

Hi Pooh,
Since I sometimes don't log in for several days I just read your post. This is a wonderful website with very kind, caring people to support each other because we all have ICDs of one kind or another. About a year ago there was a young firefighter - I can't remember his name - who was dealing with a similar situation: whether or not he could return as a firefighter on the frontline. He was eager to return to his same responsibilities. In my opinion he was most likely in better shape from a cardiac standpoint than some of his colleagues. At least he was quite sure his heart would keep beating! I don't know that we ever knew what the end result was but I am hoping he might see your post and respond to you. Surely there must be police officers out there in the same situation - I hope they will respond as well. Good luck and good pacing. God bless you.

Police Officer Trying to Return to Duty

by strock155 - 2008-07-24 03:07:47

I am hoping somebody has some updated information out there!! I had my pacer implanted in January 08 and have been jumping through all of the hoops to return to my full duty status as a police officer. I am VERY rapidly approaching a forced disability because I have a pacer. It has been suggested that I look for other officers across the nation that are on beat assignments with pacers. I am only 33 years old and can currently pass all physical agility tests. I love my career and really don't want to go down without a fight. A good hard fight is what kept me alive to be here in the first place so I definitely owe myself that much. Please, if anyone knows of an officer on the beat with a pacer, get in touch with me. I would greatly appreciate it!
