exercise
i am four weeks post-implant; was a consistent exerciser before, in otherwise good health. my doctor can't give any helpful guidance on limits of what/how vigrorous upper body workouts might cause problems with the implant and its placement. i'd like to return to pushups, pullups, exercises involving overhead pulleys, and so on. but i don't want to do anything that might cause the implant to shift or be damaged or pull the leads. (obviosly i know to avoid direct impact to the site itself). do any other patients have advice from experience, their doctors, or tips on other sources to go to for advice? icd gymrat

My Pm was put in 17 days aog.
I was told by My doctor not to workout or play golf for 8 weeks. (5.5 to go ) can't wait.
I would take it easy for at least 8-10 weeks.
DON'T lift your arm over your head at all.

this sounds very sensible and that is what we want here sensible. lol my doctor told me to return to curves. he said don't do the exercises like there is no to-morrow. he said just moderate exercise but i am 66 and so you sound like you are younger and that you are in good shape. i say everything in moderation. jessie
Lifting

My Dr. told me to wait 6 weeks and then I could resume lifting weights. I basically do every weight lifting exercise there is. The only thing my Dr. said was that he routed my lead in such a way that it wouldn't be crushed by the collar bone if I was doing such things as the overhead press or shoulder presses. I'm not sure how he routed it and how that makes a difference but that's my take on your question.

About the time frame ask your doctor. My EP that put my pacer in told me 8 weeks. I was out of my town when this happened an emergency. When i got home i went to a heart Dr. in my area it was exactly 30 days. I asked him when i could go back to work and Bowl my passion. He said what are you sitting around for get back to it. So they are all different. I don't lift weights but I install floor covering very hard work with heavy lifting from all angles. Lifting up over my head anything you can think of. That was over 2 years ago. I went to work the next day and have had no problems at all. I did start slow for the first month but went all out after that. So ask your Doctor and do what he says but almost nothing should bother you after the scar tissue forms around the leads in you heart. My tech said it would take a back hoe to pull them out after they scar. Bowlrbob

i don't think my dr did anything special with my leads, you
should ask yours as kyle0816 says.
i stay with resistance training on Nautilus machines with no jerking as with free weights.
the only side effect of training has been the loss of fat in the pectoral made the PM more prominantly exposed.

Hi Bob. When you get the docs o/k, and you should wait at least 12 weeks, start off slowly and easily. Do light exercise first and get the range of motion back. Then build up to where you were.
