Last nite when I went to bed, I got a huge jolt in my chest, it felt like my heart just stopped and that maybe my pacer kicked in and started it again, has this ever happened to anyone else. The jolt was so big that my chest actually jumped........any comments on that one.

Sounds like a PVC

A PVC can really give you a jolt sometimes. The interesting thing is that they aren't life threatening generally so doctors kind of brush them off. It's not happening in their chest! The PVC gives the feeling of our heart stopping, but actually it is just a longer space between 2 beats.

Jolt from pacemaker?
by Swedeheart - 2008-04-14 12:04:27
Hi TraciaJo,
Sorry to hear you had a "weird" experience last night... I looked at your profile and see you have a pacemaker and not an ICD. I am a "newbie" and do not have an answer to your question, but I am hoping to hear what others have to say! Do you have heart block or some other heart condition that necessitated your pacemaker?
Hope you are okay! Give your doc a call and ask about your experience! Your PM may have "recorded" the event?

Thanks for the comments, on this thing. I told my doctor and he said because I have panic attacks that it was just probably a panic attack. hummmm.....isn't that strange........who knows, I guess take a xanax and don't worry about it, was the attitude I got.........I give up........dah

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
PVC Question...
by Swedeheart - 2008-04-14 02:04:57
Electric Frank,
Interesting.... okay, what is a PVC? I have a pacemaker....a dual chamber medtronic. Do you know what this "jolt" is like? Is it like a shock, or does the description of the heart stopping fit better? I know personally I feel "funny" sometimes and I wonder if it is my pacer kicking in... but I am just not sure. This is good information to know in case it happens to me, perhaps I won't panic!
TraciaJo ~ good question you posted here!
