Pacemakers & Sharks

Very strange inquiry, but...................my 11 year old son has been paced since he was 18 months old. We are moving to the outer banks this month where surfing is very popular. My question, in case anyone has any info, is would sharks be attracted or opposed to the electromagnetic energy of a pacemaker? THere are devices divers use that use electromagnetic energy to avoid sharks.......

ElectricFrank is right. The energy levels that reach your body surface are barely more than that generated by a hearts own natural pacemaker. If this was possible it would be a concern for everyone with or without pacemaker. An ICD firing underwater would give out more power but even sharks dont like electric shocks. I wouldnt want to run into an electric eel though.Cheers Peter

There isn't enough energy outside the body from a pacemaker to be detected my a shark. They are more interested in edibles like arms and legs.
