Thanks for some great comments and encouragement, as I am new to this heart thing. It's also good to know that these meds can improve the heart functions. I guess I will feel better once the implant is over. My girlfriend said she will too. She said if I die, she will kill me!! which I thought was pretty amusing.
I do have a few questions about the ICD and recovery. In general, how long does it take to recover fully from the implant? My doc said no golf for a month... why didn't this...

I would like to ask if anyone could enlighten me of the symptoms of a pacemaker battery running low. Or an even better question is... Just what are the signs that a PM battery is running low, if any?
I have phone checks every month now, but the tech. won't/can't tell me much. The only thing I know is that I am tired and that I am in the last year of battery life. It is being depleated much faster than anticipated. I have only had it since 2005! My resting rate is set at 60. I hav...

Hello, My name is Charly, I wrote a while back about being FED up with this whole 4 ablations, topped off with the meds, no sex libido thing. Well The doc finally stated that its time to put the pacemaker in. I have SVT vs AT with bouts of A-Fib. I have had this problems for over 8years. So when i go to the appt today, she says well we maxed out on Flecanide, and diltizam. So its time. I wanna place it next week. I was like WHOA... I used to say how I was fed up and wanted a pacemaker, but now...

Hello People.
Reader's Digest offered two dozen doctors a chance to tell it like it really is, and general practitioners, surgeons, shrinks, pediatricians, and other specialists took the challenge. Some wanted to be anonymous; some didn't care. But all of them revealed funny, frightening, and downright shocking things that can help you be a better, smarter patient.
I'm only going to post a few of the answers given by some physicians, just to give you all a taste of what goes on...

Hi Pals
I want to thank you all for answering my question about bBT and laptops. I think I will go ahead and get the HP with BT because it has a larger "guts" for storage of my work and writing.
I continually missed everyone in chat and I think the last few weeks suddenly caught up with me exacerbating my depression. As I sit and type this I have tears in my eyes because I am so touched at the caring messages I received when I said I felt down. I have never , in my lif...

I am looking to replace my computer probably getting a new laptop. The model I like - HP all have bluetooth. Is it true that those with a pm should not use anything with bluetooth. I am completely confused. May be there is someone out there who can help me. The Sanyo does not have blue tooth. which is the alternative brand. Thanks Billie

Hello all,
I was recently diagnosed with diolated cardiomyopathy. After test after test, they decided I need an ICD. I have an ejection rate of about 25%. I had an electrophysiology study yesterday. They ended up shocking me after the heart went into ventricular fibrillation. They are also treating me with Coreg(beta blocker) and Lisop/Hctz for blood pressure, in hopes that the heart muscle will improve. I am still trying to reconcile all this in my head. I am 58 and in good health until t...

hey everyone,
I have a couple of questions, 1. I have noticed since my replacement PM 2 yr.s ago that every time I fly on a jet I get intense pain over my PM, which is on the left side, which travels up my left neck to my head and also travels down between my shoulder blades. It truly hurts, it feels like I'm having a heart attack. It usually stops once on the ground or shortly thereafter , I saw my MD today for an interrogation and he said he had never heard of such a thing. He said th...

Hi everyone!
Someone had suggested that I should get a medic alert ID (bracelet).
I was wondering if any of you wonderful folks could give me some advice on whether it is necessary or not and whether you use an ID or not.
I have an ICD and I am also severely allergic to Penicillin and Codeine. I have never gotten a bracelet so far because neither of those drugs would typically be used in an emergency.
Thanks!

Hi there all you pacemaker wearers out there.
I'm new to this site today. What an amazing site. I didn't appreciate that a site like this existed. I now don't feel alone.
I was feeling a bit low and deflatted today, after having a pacing check with my team in Dorset. They informed me today that my battery needs replacing again. The pacing team in Dorchester are totally fab and we've had a good chat today and I feel at ease again.
I had my first pacemaker put...

Hello,
I posted a response in answer to the lead placement question and my post went really wonky.... sorry.
The leads do wind around in places before they get to our heart. I would click images on a google search and key in pacemaker placement and you should find some web sites that explain the leads, etc.
The Cleveland Clinic used to have a really good image and information about lead placement and pacemaker placement, but they have completely redesigned their...

CA Regulations re: ICD

The requirement in CA has been for many years that a physician report any patient who has lost consciousness regardless of the reason. A form is available just for this. There is no specifc disease or condition stated other than "loss of consciousness", epilepsy. An ICD is never mentioned in the regulations. A person who is rendered unconscious may have sustained brain damage - lack of oxygen to the brain - and can possibly no longer be safe behind the wheel. In the hospital setting we see man...

I 've got LV <30 EF, 100% occluded [R] main coronary artery and 40% occlusion of the [L] main coronary artery. I Died during the EP study, then I had a atrial pacemaker, ventricular pacemaker, difibrilator with built in heart monitor installed.
My question is why are they not trying to clear the arteries??
I am not taking any medication for choletorol or anything.
Have they decided I'd probably die during the procedure or doing the procedure wouldn't really prolong my life??
