Reply to Ferdie 100% paced

I am in complete heart block and have been since my first implant in 1999. So I probably would be considered close to 100% paced. This is my 3rd PM. Recently went into A Fib and after quite an ordeal, they found 2 out of my 3 wires had fractured. Now down to 2 wires with a possible placement of a 3rd thru my ribcage in about a month. Yes, it is scary having to rely on today's technology, but then again, I consider myself very very fortunate to even be here. hang in there!

100% DEPENDENT ON PM

I HAD MY FIRST PACEMAKER INPLANTED IN JAN 2001,AND HAVE HAD BATTERYS CHANGED ONCE
IN 2005. I ALSO WAS TOLD THAT I AM 100% DEPE-
NDENT ON MY PACEMAKER,AND THAT WITHOUT
IT I WOULD DIE. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW IF THERE
ARE OTHERS OUT THERE THAT ARE 100% DEPEN-
DENT ON THERE PACEMAKER. I ALSO HAVE THE
DEFIBULATER WHICH KICKS IN ONCE IN AWHILE.

SLEEPING

It seems a good idea to have your pacemaker set to a lower beat at night to help you sleep and save the battery. The idea appeals to me. However if you travel abroad which I do where night becomes day effectively , what happens then? Any comments. Cheers Peter

PMer's Brains

Hey, I know you guys are tired of me, but I just wanted to spill my guts on things. I know this is stupid, but I was wondering if we are smarter than the average bear (not to sound conceited). My father is a biology teacher and he says scientists studied the brain capacities of people with transplants, and they actually recieve a little bit of that person's brain power. Does it work the same way for technology??? Yeah, it's stupid, but you guys sound pretty smart, and I'm not trying to brag, but...

New member - New Pacemaker

I found your wonderful website this morning and have spent most of the day reading the posts on the various forums. How enlightening ……. I only wish I had discovered Pacemaker Club earlier.

My name is David and I am a 69 year old retired police officer. Three years ago I was taken into emergency with a suspected heart attack and during my first night in the Cardiac Unit experienced a number of heart ‘pauses’ of 6 to 8 seconds duration whilst asleep. They decided that this was due to b...

PM and SLEEP

Has anyone had trouble sleeping since getting their PM. I used to sleep soundly for about 7 hours and since PM I sometimes sleep only 3-4 hours a night. My PM is for Bradicardia with a min rate of 60 bpm. I had a slow rate for many years and routinely was 30-40 BPM while resting. I thinking about having my Cardioligst adjust to between 40-50 BPM at night. I had my PM for about 10 month.

Any thoughts on this.
Thanks,

Hybrid Automobiles

There has been a lot of press lately since the price of gasoline is skyrocketing about hybrid cars and possible side effects to folks with pacemakers. I guess while the car is not running with the use of the gasoline engine it creates a significant electromagnetic field. Does anyone drive a hybrid or has anyone been affected by the EMF?

Thrombosis After AV Node Ablation

I spent last evening in the ER, with a red, swollen and very sore leg. My leg has been minimally sore for four days but yesterday was much worse.

It's a thrombosis, a big one, one month post-op....unusual but obviously can happen.

I'm to return to the hospital today, for an ultrasound and doppler to see how "bad" the thrombosis is and to decide upon treatment.

Needless to say, this is a bit disheartening and frightening.

I hope that this is just a b...

About chat

Hi folks

Just to let you all know that when I get towards the bottom of the page on Chat I have difficulties and get locked out and can't log in again. It is a nuisance as it is usually at the point when the conversation gets interesting. So to all of you who chat to me I do not intentionally leave and walk out on you. If there is outstanding chat I will send a message and finish the information we were talking about. Have a nice day all. Billie

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
