Hello fellow PMers,
I have had a PM since Aug. 28,2007. Over night my pulse went to below 30. I am very active and there was no indication of a problem before this incidence. In fact I had run 5.5 km two days before with no difficulties. The doctors immediately said I needed a PM. I spent three days in the intensive station while they monitored my heart. My pulse with medication stayed at around 35 the whole time. The doctors could find no reason for this condition. They had thought it migh...

Can You Really Drink Too Much Water?
In a word, yes. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. Water intoxication is most commonly seen in infants under six months of age and sometimes in athletes. A baby can get water intoxication as a result of drinking several bottles of water a day or from drinking infant formula that has been diluted too much. Athletes can a...

Just had a pacemaker put in on October 18th, 2007. Had my first post op check up on Nov. 1st. Doc says everything looks great. Next appointment is in 3 months. I am right-handed. I understand that I may be able to shoot a riffle come hunting season Nov.15th, but, definitely couldn't drag or dress out the deer. I understand about the lifting heavy things. Has anyone out there had any hunting experiences that they would share with me. Thanks

I have participated and conversed a few times in this forum. For some I have had exchanged stories in the private email feature. But I am different from most members here; I do not have a PM. That is about to change.
On November 13th, I am lined up for a procedure to address my sinus node dysorder. I was a runner for many years of my adult life but funky things begin to happenin 2004 when I tried to train. Each year it became progressively worse until finally it was identified th...

My husband is 34 and just had a CRT-D installed on Friday. He is doing well except for a few things:
He is experiencing hot flashes with chills at the same time (no fever). these haooen at random times while inactive.
And when he lays on his right side he is having what he describes as hard heart beats.
Has anyone had any experiences like this?

My husband is post ICD surgery two years ago and has been doing fine, Friday night right after we had dinner (and it was overly warm in our kitchen) he had just taken his coreg and coumadin and started sweating profusely, got very dizzy and weak, his lips turned totally white and his face was totally gray. He vomited up everything he had just eaten but 5 minutes prior. I put an icepack on his head, turned a fan on him and in about 15 minutes he recovered. What could this have been? I have nev...

Hi everyone,
I am almost in my 8th week since pm plant. I notice that my pacemaker has moved up more. It is very close to my left collarbone. Actually, when I feel it, there is about a "fingertip" between them. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, is it safe? I sort of feel it, and it seems much closer. I am worried that my leads are in the way and going to get broken. I do go again this coming Friday to the Cardiologist and also to get my PM check. So I am going to me...

Hi!
I'm writing because my 5 year old son was born with HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome). He has Sinus Node Dysfunction and will need pacing in the future. We are anxiously awaiting that time, but right now he is having Holter Monitor tests every 4 weeks. He is symptom free in every way (activity level, energy, etc...) but has a very slow heartrate which even dips into the 40's when he's in a deep sleep. I'm SO EXTREMELY nervous because of the fact that Tate will have to h...

Well, I met with my Cardiovascular & Thoracic surgeon on 11/2 and he too agrees my PM should be repositioned. I have a wire protruding out, not out of the skin, however, the skin there is extremely thin and very uncomfortable. I had my battery changed in 4/07 and haven't been comfortable since.
The surgeon said he would place under my muscle, although I am very small framed...has anybody had their PM put under the muscle? What is the recovery time? It seems like it would be long...

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
