The following, written by Patricia Barry, is from the June, 07 issue of AARP Bulletin. If this is an accurate description of the thoughts and actions of the people promoting prescription drugs, I have to wonder what the thoughts and actions are of a representative promoting medical devices such as pacemakers, joint replacements, etc.

WAKING UP AT NIGHT
Hi everyone,
I'm so glad I discovered this site. I have an 18 month old who had a pacemaker implanted 2 months after he was born due to complete heart block -atrioventricular. As he's growing he seems to be having less complete night sleep as he wakes up about the same time almost every night (between 3 and 3:45AM), kicking, stretching forcefully, and upset. He still tries to go to sleep as you can see he's loving his night rest but something is bothering him. I don't understand why t...

Good news. Just returned from my doctor's office after my first visit since the PM was put in on May 10, 2007. After testing the device he told me I could play golf in two weeks as long as I didn't try to act like Tiger Woods! Going to give it a go after six weeks for nine holes.

Hello, everyone! It's been a while since I've written and am curious about whether anyone else has ever experienced what I am feeling right now.
I've had two prior pacemakers try to expel themselves from my body. Usually due to infection, an infection could not be found. A third machine was placed on the same side as the other two but deeper down under the muscle--that was in May, 2006. It's over a year later and the pain I began having after that surgery just won't end. The pain is t...

Wow, Sharon will be very happy to read these encouraging messages when she comes back.
I really want to visit again b/c she is just the sweetest person. She emits this light around her; like a glow...then again it could have been the light above her hospital bed, lol jk
Anyway, I'm not sure how much is too much in regards to visiting, so I'm thinking maybe one more time...I'm not too sure....suggestions please? hehe. thanks.
It was quite an adventure getting there thou...

Hi All,
Will PM really make you do the activites that you havnt done for a long time because of your heart problem? My girlfriend, is now unconscious because she experienced shortness of breathing yesterday resulting to heart attack i guess,.. The Doctor recommends that she needs to have a PM,.. She has a cardiomyopathy.. does anyone of you have the same condition as her before? does it true that PM will add another 10 yrs for you to live? I guess this one will depend on you right?...

Just yesterday my cardiologist and Medtronic emploee told me again it is important not to remain in between the security pillars at the entry to retail stores.
According to them, these devices definitely do interfere with the PM operation if you remain within the field.
Do not pause when going through these security devices. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your heart & health.

Hi,
I got my pacemaker implant last year and I'm curious to know if there are other people out there with an implant that run marathons and compete in Ironmans.
It would be interesting to compare training notes...

I am new to the pm world, so I was curious if pregnancy has more complications with a pacemaker than a normal pregnancy? I am 28 and had a catheter ablation that went awry, which led to me having heart block, and then the pacemaker...but I really want to start a family soon...any advice out there?

Hi pacers,
Well, I saw our wonderful Sharon today at the hospital (the same hospital she had her PM implant) and her knee replacement went well.
She is in good hands. The nurse on call was very nice to her and he said, "I just met her when I got on shift today, and she is just lovely", so as you can see, she has that instant effect on people.
She wanted to tell all of you that she truly appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers, and that you are such wonderful people on this s...

Okay so here is the deal...this is kinda funny really. I was leaning over last week to hit a friend of mine with a book and I laid back down (we were on the beach) and I felt something funny in the area of my PM abut the same time my friend did this weird gasping sound. She pointed and I looked down and my PM wasn't laying flat...it was on it's side. *gringes* and yes...it hurt. I put my hand over it and it flipped back down. Not very gently I might add. It hurt but felt okay and I started laugh...
Here's a thought.

I heard this on my radio station that I wake up to each morning.
Is 99.9% is good enough and this does sound like a pretty good average. This means that approximately 2500 pacemakers would be improperly installed during a 1 year period. I guess that a 99.9% average is good enough depending on what it is you are talking about. Bowlrbob

I just had an interesting checkup. When I was connected to my doctor's computer, he could tell when I had been drinking, such as Christmas and my Birthday, by the spikes of dysrhythmia when I had a lot to drink! Life is just a ballance of coffee and alcohol, and both seem to effect me. Combinations of the two seem to do the worst. The doctor doesn't think I can do any permanent damage, but wants to put me on cumidin if I have more episodes to prevent stroke. I think I have enough blood thin...
