Hello
I'm a new member of the Pacemaker Club and I'd like to ask, about sports: I'm 62 years old and I had a pacemaker implant 4 months ago, with (2) electrodes, due to bradycardia. I have been involved in the sport of shooting with a shotgun for many years, but now my doctor tells me to avoid it, because it is possible that the pacemaker will be adversely affected by the reloading(recoiling) of the weapon. Is there another member with a pacemaker who is involved in...

Hello,
I'm wanting to connect with anyone here who continues to practise yoga after PM surgery (most of the posts seem to be dated).
It's pointless to ask my Dr as I'm doubtful he's ever stepped into a yoga studio.
Please share your do's and don'ts.

I'm 33 year old male, received PM for heart block, and syncope- also have a high vagal response. Also just 2 weeks ago hit my 1 year anny with my pacer! Things have been pretty great until this last week.
Thursday went for a 3 mile run (I run 2 to 3 miles a day) and as soon as I got done running I bent over and tied my daughter's shoe. I stood up and BAM....super dizzy and nauseous. Laid down with feet up for 10 minutes and ate dinner, then felt 100% back to normal.
Today...

I had a resting rate for years between 40 and 50. Competitive triathlete and cyclist. Had an athletic heart condition for 30 plus years and believe I still do. Have had flutter off an on for 8 years, mostly off. Jan 2017 sysmtoms of bradicardia began, pretty common for athletes. 7/17 got a dual lead medtronic pace maker. resting rate was set at 60 BPM. Now it is set at 70 BPM? If I still have an athletic heart condition, why 70. Now, flutter and fib are back. I cannot tell it and still go ana...

Thanks so much for all your good advice. Went for a bike ride yesterday (with my bike helmet of course) and decided not to worry ! It was great, but I discovered I"m in terrible shape, despite doing a lot of walking since my procedure :) More riding is in order now that the weather is finally decent, here in southern Ontario

I'm a recent pacmaker recipient (March 2020), now getting back to excercise. I like cycling, but I tend to be a little clumsy and am worried about taking a fall or hitting my chest hard on the handlebars. Should I be ? Is there a product people use to protect the area ?
Who's creating the rate?

So I'm a bit confused about how my rate is being determined. I have a dual chamber PM (Medtronics XT DR MRI SureScan) with leads in my RA and RV. According to my interagation my RA pacing in nearly 100% and my RV pacing is 70%, AP-VP is 70% and AP-VS is 30% with both AS-VP and AS-VS at essentially 0%. So my question is how is my actual rate determined. I know this PM has a Rate Response feature that uses an accelerometer to sense motion and adjust your rate based on that, but I've not...

Weightlifting (bench pressing, squatting, deadlifting, curling, etc.) have been a part of my life for many years. Will I be able to continue this exercise program after pacemaker implantation? Have any of you continued weightlifting (or had to stop weightlifting) after implantation?

Hi all, I am a 55 year old male who is very active and only recently had a pacemaker installed for Mobitz II (2 weeks ago). As an example, in the week prior to the procedure I ran a total of 34 miles, went on a 120 mile bike ride and I keep my core toned with 300 pushups 6 days a week.
At the 1 week check up the PA doing my first settings check said everything is ok. I asked about running and she said "Cardio is fine, go for it...

I am 78 years and a life time cyclist. At the begining of April I had a Tavi op and 2 days before that I had a Boston Scientific PM fitted. Tavi to replace my Aortic Valve and PM to prevent HR dropping when at rest. I anticipated a delay to return to training. However, although my lower HR was going to be 50, I did not expect the PM to restrict my HR to mid 50s max. Hence my activities are pretty limited. I am seeing the PM tech. in about 10 days any comments?
Rapid BPM drop during exercise

So I'm experiencing a rapid drop in rate when I start to get my BPM up during exercise. Once I get into the 110 ish range, I feel some PVC's (heavy beats) and then down it goes. It'll drop down to 90 most times and then others it'll drop hard down to about 70. Sometimes it'll recover quickly, and cruise at 110 again, but there's other times it'll stay low for minutes. Bottom line is I can't exercise and get into the cardio zone at all. I told this to...

Just had my Medtronic pacemaker implanted May 5th. 2020. I am a very active 80 year old male. Right now the reason Im not working is because of the virus. Anyway thought this would be a good time to get the implant as my heart doc. has been recommending it for the past couple of years because of slow resting heart rate (in the 40's) . So its set at 60 now. Am frustrated because the pacemaker surgeon said no bike riding for 3 months. Road bike not mountain. I just bought a new road bike an...

I am trying to understand the terms, and how my pacemaker works as compared to Medtronics. There seems a lot of stuff online about Medtronic but not so much about St Jude. I am a 72 year old cyclist who has great difficulty getting my pulse up when I go up hills. I know that the pacemaker senses movement, which is minimal in cycling. From a previous post, it was mentioned that I should learn alot about my PM and have serious discussion with my EP about the parameters that PM has and how...

Hi all.
I just had a CRT placed 6 months ago for a hereditary cardiomyopathy. I am currently 58 but have dealt with issues since I was 18. I have continued to stay very active my entire life despite my heart. My love is cycling. Last week I went for a routine ride. I typically do 20 miles 4 days a week. Nothing out of the ordinary and I felt great. Out of no where my debrillator fired and I was knocked off my bike. It continued...

Hi had a pacemaker implanted Aug 2019, right shoulder replacement March 6,2020. Now in rehab phase. The problem i have is when using left hand to move right shoulder. Causing my pacemaker to feel like it is moving. Have had to use left hand in a different position so it does not cross the pacemaker. The PT gal said no others have had this problem. When pulling on the pulley have to turn my left hand away from my body. Am a thin person and ca...

After lung surgery in December 2019 low level arrhythmias were made worse. Now cardiologist is recommending pacemaker. I have bradycardia and atrial tachycardia and bouts of atrial fibrillation. I am asymptomatic other than feeling the abnormal beats and pauses , sort of freaky waiting for next heartbeat! Dr believes that I am at high risk for trauma and bleed if I fall off my horses or horses fall with me as I am on Eliquis. So Dr goal is rather than wait...

What's been your return to exercise process? I plan to talk to my Cardiologist/EP and get the ok first. It's been a month and was told 4-6 weeks. I am currently booked off work and wanting to get back at it. So I am looking at getting a referral to a Exercise Physiologist. Has anyone been referred to one? I've read a lot of posts with concerns about heart rate. How has everyone managed? Are there any ah ha moments worth sharing? I've read about cycling. I love m...

I am 72 years old and been cycling for 17 months, did 2200 miles last year and 400 this year. It is April in Penna. I am struggling on hills and this manifests as not getting enough oxygen; really short of breath on hills. My heart rate does not increase at a rate that correlates to my exertion. Throughout the winter I did SPIN classes 3X week, HITT on a stepper machine and rowing machine (same results) and EWOT on the stepper machine (the 90% oxygen worked well).&n...

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
