Since we found out that using a bodyfat tester was not recommended for ICD patients I was wondering if the same applies to touch-screen monitors. I know that they use some kind of electric current to calculate where your finger is pressing on the screen. With things like the iPhone coming out and other entertainment devices like touch-screen games you see at bars etc. I wonder if there is a risk of unnecessary shock from using touch screens. Hmmmm....

This post has nothing to do with pacemakers, it's all for fun.
Over the course of his career, Stephen King has provided plenty of material for Hollywood to work with. Can you unscramble his other page-to-screen titles?

I am only one month post-op with my PM, but am looking forward to going to the pool soon. Do any ladies have ideas of a suit style that will hide my scar (I read that sun exposure will cause darkening), and cover my "bump"? There has to be others who have had to figure this out among you all. Thanks

Hi pacer world,
I'm sure you all remember Tammy (member name: tcrabtree85). Well, I just got an update from her and she made it through her ablation and she is feeling well (she just sounds a bit tired, but that's expected). Her ablation lasted 3 hours, which she said is the shortest one she's had. Her pulse is now 70! (vs. 100 or so before the ablation).
She is just waiting to get the okay to move around, and she should be discharged tomorrow afternoon. Why they are unleashing this...

The weather has not been the best here in Alberta, Canada and lately we have been getting our fair share of rain, thunder and lightening. My question is, does anyone have concerns about being out when lightening is happening - we are probably be more succeptable in being hit then someone without a pm. Within the last week, several people have been hit by lightening here in Alberta.

Hello My Friends - I am back and so happy to be reading and sending messages. Other than a great big "OWIE" I am doing great. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts on my behalf. It is appreciated more than I can ever tell you. And, our little Valerie surely made everything so much better from the moment I saw her. What a lovely, sweet young lady. Her parents have done a fine job raising her; I wish more parents raised children like Val! I love you all for your caring and kindne...

Some cardiac-device recipients don't want to give up sports, so a medical registry tracks how they're doing.

For heart patients who have defibrillators implanted in their chests, the conventional wisdom when it comes to competitive sports is simple: Stick to golf. Or bowling.
Doctors worry that rigorous athletic activity could stress a patient's heart and prompt either an appropriate or inappropriate shoc...

happy father's day to all the father's out there. our sight is made up of young old men women and there are many father's who to-day are honoured for being there. as for my own father he was great. life was different then and the expectations were different. all i can say is he took little for himself and saw that all five of us were educated and could fend for ourselves. he stayed when many would not have. he didn't have a father long himself so he had no one to identify with. so my advice is l...

WE SOULD ALL THANK MR. JOHN HOPPS
John Hopps, a Canadian, invented the first heart pacemaker. At the age of 21, he joined the National Research Council in 1941 after training at the University of Manitoba as an electrical engineer. He found that by using mechanical means the heart could be artificially started again after it was exposed to a cooling process. With this discovery, Hopps was able to build the first pacemaker in 1950.
In 1958, the first pacemaker was implanted...

Hello,
Thank you everyone again for your thoughts and prayers. Today I went and did a lung scan that came back negative for pulmonary embolism. Nice to know, but...please forgive me...I am absolutely frustrated. The doc is relying on solely the scan (which only looks at the lungs and can be highly inaccurate) to say I have no clotting going on, but wouldn't do any additional testing until I mentioned it. Now I am on to ultrasounds of both legs and my bad arm.
I have another condi...

Hello from New South Wales, Australia. I have read many of the postings here as I approach the date of my defibrillator implantation on 27th June 2007. I have learned much more here about little things to be aware of than I learnt from my doctor. Any suggestions for a newy welcome!
I need to check, but I think I am having a Medtronics defibrillator. I know it has three leads and that the pacing side of things won't actually be functioning, just recording, because my doctor said with m...

Hi pacer friends,
You know how before theater people go up on stage to perform someone says, "Break a leg!" ?
What about a pacemaker person going in for surgery...would it be 'Pull a lead!" ?
there's my wise thought for the day.
take care,
~valerie :)

A hard working man, never having time to spend with his son. One day would understand how important it was to walk by his side. After years of ignoring his son he one day was forced to a choice of seeing his son and understanding his presence in his life. He decides to take time out from his busy schedule to spend father and son moments together. Everyday, him and his son would walk through this open field and they would stop at a rock where his son use to love playing on. Both of them look...

A researcher at LDS Hospital says he has dispelled a myth that has prevented some women from receiving a life-saving heart device.
John Day, a cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythm abnormalities, said there is an erroneous perception among doctors that women don’t benefit as much as men from heart-failure pacemaker defibrillators, which strengthen the h...

Hello,
Recently I posted about my endless pain with my pacemaker and my chest.
Queen beez--thank you, thank you, thank you for your concern! Thank you also to everyone else for your concern as well, especially Cathy. I have not gone to the ER, but just yesterday my internist at the large medical center I go to for my pacer did a test for d-dimer--which is a test to rule out blood clots.
About an hour after my blood was drawn, my doctor called me very concerned. D...

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
