New leads

Hi
I had my pacemaker put in 5 weeks ago. There is a problem with one of the leads and I have to have it replaced. I've no idea what to expect. Will it be exactly the same as when I had my pace maker fitted or should it be a bit easier and take a bit less time. Also will the recovery be quicker. Anyone out there who's had this done can you let me know what to expect. It is a dual chamber pacemaker. Thanks Ali

It'll be pretty much the same thing they did the first time, maybe a bit easier because you already have the pocket for the pm.

About the same...

I have had several lead revisions and yes they are pretty much the same as the first install.

The upside is that you know what to expect and that makes it easier for you.

I will say that the discomfort level seemed lower with the revisions.

Good luck & God Bless

As long as you dont have to extract leads (take them out to make space for new ones) it should be fine. But if you do have to do lead extractions I just did some March 03 of this year and it is major and I will gladly help you with advise on the BEST doctor and the experience as well as what to expect.

I am a month shy of 4 yrs with my medtronic pacemaker/Defibrillator I have recalled leads and my alarms are now going off that the wire is fracturing. I am going to see my ep tomorrow. When I was first told of the recall they said the wire would not be removed but would be capped off and a new one put in. Should they be removing it? I keep hearing how dangerous this is to do. I need advice. This is all pretty scary.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
