Replacement

First thank you for your help. i called my heart doctor and they made an appointment mistake. When the battery is low they want it checked monthly not every 6 months. I go next wednesday 7/15/09. I have an ICD 3 years old ! Do they just replace the batteries or put in a new one ?

THANK YOU

NERVOUS MIKE

REPLACEMENT

Having a replacement is less traumatic than the first implant. A pocket does not have to be cut/formed as there is one already there. The existing leads are connected to the new pacemaker after testing their performance to ensure they will last out the new pacemaker. It does seem wasteful to discard a pacemaker when only the battery needs changing however they are welded and hermetically sealed at the moment so it is not possible. Cheers Peter

last time i was at hosp met an old guy who'd just had it replaced, came in about 11 and was just having lunch before going home.

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
