Hi . . . Anyone out there a swimmer . . . I am, even at 84 . . .just had pm replacement after 10 yr . . this one is ADDR01 . . .just the pm, leads were OK . . .have a super surgeon . . .was done 9/2/09 . . ... When a gal removed the staples on 9/9 she said it looked fine . . .BUT that I shouldn't swim for 5 MONTHS . . .I go for "follow up" on Oct 7 ...hope I'm cleared to swim then . . . my surgeon told me on Aug 31 that I could swim as soon as incision is healed . . .probably mid Sept....well, today is the 17th . . . . any comments?

I'd ask the doctor! You only had a replacement, that's instructions for new leads. I would think it's ok to swim whenever you feel ready. It just needs to be healed enough that pool water won't infect it.

I am 81 and still swimming daily... My replacement was two years ago...first one. I understood it would be five weeks and later told that it was six weeks, so when I swam at 5 weeks, my pacemaker did move a couple of inches. It is worth waiting the full six if that is what your doctor tells you, but as Tracey said with a replacement it could be sooner. Lots of good luck and enjoy your swim (when ready:) ).......aldeer

I agree with Tracey. If it is just a replacement the only thing to wait for is the incision to heal. Swimming pool water isn't the most sanitary and I wouldn't want it to start an infection.
