I am wondering if anyone else can describe to me what the sound the pacemaker makes when the battery is low. I have a guidant pacemaker model 1290 for little over 2 years and last night I heard a sound coming from my chest. My last visit to see the Tech was in July and I my battery history shows I have over 5 years left. I called Boston Scientific/Guidant this morning and the technician stated that my pacemaker does not make any noise when the battery is low. Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them? Thanks for reading.

What kind of noise do you hear? Is it a squeaky sound? It may be a friction rub that your dr should check out. Pacemakers don't make noises but the wires can rub against heart muscle and cause a squeaky sound with each heartbeat ("squeak-squeak, squeak-squeak"). Call your dr and explain the noise to him. They should be able to tell you better if there is anything you need to do.
Best to you,

PM Noise?

When my Guidant ran low on battery "juice" I got short of breath, not as bad as orginally before PM. Went away after battery PM changed but I never heard any noise. I agree with others you need to call your doc. Good luck.

PM/ Icd will beep lightly when battery is low. You need to have your device checked pronto.
Take care!

I was whirlygirl one morning

Hello Mooserunning, I woke up one morning around 4 am as I recall. It was the wee hours of the morning. As I lay in bed I could hear a whirly noise. So faint, but yet very distinctive. I have only heard it on a few occasions, but I did hear it and it did come from my chest. I am certain of that. Of course the techs and the drs say it's not possible, but I know what I heard! I had only had my pacer a few months when the sound made it's self known so it couldn't have been the battery. Pacergirl
My original post about being whirlly girl was on Aug 31, 2006
Have a great weekend, pacergirl.
