Hi there,
Hope someone can help me with my query.
I had my 3rd pacemaker fitted in March 2013. I am experiencing some pain in the shoulder just an inch or two left of the pacemaker site. I am an active golfer and put this down to a strained muscle. I have no other symptoms. My GP thinks the pacemaker may have become infected and sent me for some blood tests. Obviously I am worried that it may be infected and the whole system might need to be removed. What are the characteristic symptoms of pace maker infection as experienced by you members out there? Thank you for your help. Paul

Possible signs of an infection- swelling, red streaks, oozing, fever. I'm no expert but a new localized pain sounds to me more like muscle strain but it's always best to test to be sure. Your doc seems really on the ball. We have way too many posters with worse symptoms than you who are given antibiotics( that may or may not be right) and sent home without cultures. If there is any chance at all of infection, it's best to know right away what you're dealing with so you are on the correct meds asap. The sooner it's treated, the less chance of it getting out of control (which leads to removal of the pm).
