I am 16 today & my pacemaker is 6 months old!

Today i am celebrating my 16 birthday!!!! But it feels like its just my 1st Birthday because my life changed a year ago when i began passing out everyday! After waiting 6months to recieve a pacemaker i can now say that 6 months after recieving the pacemaker i am a whole new person and see the world in a whole new perspective!! My pacemaker was just a lifesaver and a device that not only keeps me upright but it also allows me to lead a somewhat normal life!! I am so happy these days...i am playing sports, DRIVING (which they said they i wouldnt be able to do unless i stopped passing out), hanging with friends and being a 16 year old girl...i am so happy and if you want a success story this is one!! I was passing out everyday and it has been 6 months since my pacemaker was implanted and i haven't passed out once! I feel great and i am doing great!! thankyou to all who made my 16 birthday and upright one and a extordianary one!!! Thank you very much!

It's so good to hear you are doing well. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart/PM!

You have your whole life ahead of you, eat healthy, exercise properly, just as an advice from someone who is older, and wishes could do things differently, I would say "dont sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff". If you don't do well in school or dating problems, say the heck with it!

Best of all, congratulations!!!! You are an inspiration!

Thats what we like to hear, the good news as well as the bad. You come across someone who has taken it all in your stride. Well done. Cheers Peter

Way to go!

You have the right attitude and it will pay off. At your age you can be sure that during your life you will see major advances in pacing. I would guess that in the next 10 years (maybe less) the pacer won't need battery changes and can be permanently implanted deeper and out of the way.

Anyway, enjoy,

frank

Happy Sweet Sixteen!

Happy birthday! You sound like a very mature and really sweet girl! My daughter celebrated her 16 this past Sunday. She too is looking forward to driving; me not so much. LOL!

Thank You Everyone!!

Thank you everyone!! I am just so thrilled to know that people i have never met before are interested in how my life is going since my pacemaker was implanted! This really brightens my day to know that someone somewhere is looking out for me!! And to Zombie and Frank i really hope they can get some new and improved pacemakers! I live in the US and i am the youngest in the Midwest with the type of pacemaker i have which is for neurocardio genic syncope (passing out) and they are working on another type that might be out this summer and me and my doctor are talking about trying to get it because the battery lasts like 12 years where the one i have now lasts 8 years. This 12 year one would be great because then i could get through medical school before having to have surgery again! ( I say medical school because i want to be a pedeatric MD) I am hoping that more things are advancing and that someday a pacemaker wont be a sickness but a lifesaver!

happy birthday! I can totally relate - I used to pass out constantly pre PM but they took 10 years and a couple of surgeries before implanting my PM. Life is great. A big congratulations on your new life and ENJOY the freedom you will now have. You won't know yourself!
cheers
