Weigh Lifting

Good afternoon,

Does anyone lift weighs with their ICD?

I have an ICD/CRT-D and I've always have lifted light to moderate that is...NOT bodybuilder. However, after I had a v-tach storm five months ago...I've pretty much avoided it...other than light isometrics.

My EP says to do what I'm comfortable with and go easy.

Thanks!

Ron

I still do a pretty good amount of weight lifting, even after my last ablation. It took me a while to get comfortable again after my repeated issues (under 180 vtach runs, which is slow for me). The latest ablation stopped most of them, but one little one came back. The medication is currently keeping it under control, though.

But I still lift heavy, example
325 4x8 flat bench
245 4x8 military press
280 4x8 seated rows.
130 4x8 barbell curls

Not to bad. Doc has always been ok with me working out. The only issue I have is the sotalol supresses my heart function, so it is harder to workout than before.

I have lifted weights on and off most of my adult life and still do so with my PM/ICD. Certainly I don't lift heavy but can do o.k. if I stay consistent. I am a little leary of some exercises but seem able to do a good variety of movements. I usually curl 15 to 35 lb dumb bells, shoulder press 25 or 30 lbs dumb bells, bench press up to 150 lbs, leg press up to 300 lbs. Lat pulls to 150 lbs, So not very heavy but I could do more if I was more consistent. Good enough for 61 yrs old and PM dependant. My Ep seems ok with it and I also mountain bike and rock climb. I try to do smooth movements and never just go all out. Best wishes.

Yes, I have read on here from people that lift with ICD, I'm sure you will here from them when they read this. Meanwhile as long as you trust your EP do what he/she says. Can't go wrong there. Jean

Thanks!
