I just received my pacemaker 2 days ago. I started a very intense exercise program back in November with a private trainer. I was overweight and out of shape and had not felt good for a very long time. I was determined to feel better. I lost 20 inches and was feeling much better but still having very irregular heart rates and some days could hardly do anything. I was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and a pacemaker was recommended. Honestly, my biggest hesitation was the fact that I would miss workout and get behind. I am so concerned about getting back in the gym and not going backwards. How soon after your surgery did you get back in the groove?

I got my Pacemaker on 1/25. I had my 1st check up at 6 weeks, which was 3/16. I got my clearance to do whatever I wanted. Your really HAVE to keep that arm down for 6 weeks to make sure the leads are in place. This limits what you can do in the gym. I have a wii fit and I walked and did the step exercises two days after the implant. Last night, for the first time, I did yoga and strength and stretching and all. It was good to get back to doing some things. I did notice that I lost some muscle on the right side (that is where my PM is), but I know it will come back soon. And I was a little stiff this morning, but this too will pass.
The main thing is to allow yourself time to heal completely. Everyone is different, but it is better to heal a couple extra weeks than to have any complications.
Good luck!
