Walked to the supermarket

Ok, for the first time in 2 weeks, I was able to venture out to the supermarket walking. It's about 8-10 blocks, I was worried most of the time that either the PM will kick in or the ICD will shock me! Nothing happened, the only thing that happened was when I got back, I was sweating, maybe from the panic attack that I had just walked that long.

The scar tissue is hurting me right now, since some of my skin around the area was sweaty! I have always been a big sweat-er, so I am not too worried, and I dont feel that bad! I just worry that others worry and know that I have the PM/ICD and will be worried!

Does anyone remember their first exercise experience. Any words of encouragement is welcome!

TIA,

oh Yeeeeeeeeeeees, I remember the first exercice experience and it happened exactly the same thing to me ... at the same time, I have not been walking such a long distance just after two weeks :-)
It is normal that the scar tissue is hurting ... first time you are requesting your body to do an extra effort since the surgery. You are still healing and you need some more time.
At the same time, I am pretty sure you were quite proud to be able to walk such a distance for the first time , that's great. And again, always listen to your body .... ok we are not so used to that... but you need to during a certain period of time...
keep me updated on your walking improvement !! and again LISTEN to your body (please !).
take care,
Chrissie.

I DO REMEMBER MY FIRST EXERCISE AFTER THE FIRST PACEMAKER WAS PUT IN. I TOOK IT EASY TILL THE SCAR HEALED ...MAYBE A WEEK..THEN MY WIFE ASKED ME TO PLAY AROUND :) I WAS SO WORRIED I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT....NOT A PROBLEM....THEN I SAID WELL IF IT WAS GOOD FOR THAT I GUESS I CAN PLAY GOLF :) I WENT BACK FOR A DOCTOR CHECK AND HE SAID OK TO PLAY GOLF. THAT WAS 10 YEARS AGO AND NOW I HAVE MY 2ND ICD 3 YEARS AND AGAIN NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT FOR A LITTLE SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND IF I LOST 20 LBS THAT WOULD STOP. I HAVE TO GET A NEW ICD IN JUNE. YOU'LL DO FINE AND DONT PLAY TENNIS THE LEADS MIGHT COME LOOSE.IT HAPPENED TO A FRIEND.WHEN THEY TELL YOU IT'S NO BIG DEAL ...BELIEVE THEM AND DON'T SWEAT IT

That is a long walk for someone in your condition. Bravo!I think you're right that the intense sweating was from your anxiety, but as you get used to doing things, it will stop. Like Chrissie says, listen to your body. If you think you did alright with that walk, do it again. If you sense a problem, hang back. Give yourself time and you'll be fine.
Good luck,

The first one is the hardest I think! Just do a little everyday and slowly slowly increase the length of the walk. It sure is scary but you can do it !!

I am 4 weeks after my PM come this Tues. and went for my first long walk after 2 weeks. I experienced what you describe but have been walking almost every day since. Don't over do it and pay attention to your body, (hard to do sometimes) and each day will get better. It really is hard to wait for your body to get back to normal. I did some light yard work yesterday and am paying for it this morning so will wait awhile before I do that again. Anyway, all the best to you! We are all here for you.
