tennis/track

pm installed 1/27/2010. after 8 weeks, dr orders i resumed playing tennis. no problems with stamina or range of motion. i havewith the run sprints in the senior olympics, age group 69-74. i run against runners who run in 10-20 meets a year. i have won gold in state meets in the 100 and 200 meters. now with the pm, my surgeon and cardio guy really dont have an opinion as whether i can resume sprinting. they have no problem with distance running but are concerned with the stress and impact from all out sprinting. anyone have experience at this level.
thank jack rabbit

Sprinting

The most critical aspect of this is not necessarily the impact of the sprinting (although the mechanics of your upper arm motion could be a problem.)

The part that worries me is the upper limit on your pacemaker.

I would ask the physician to put you on a treadmill and adjust the upper tracking rate so that your pacemaker can keep up with your demands while sprinting.

(Past the upper limit, many pacemakers will block every other beat effectively sending a heart rate that goes from 129, 130 then 65. This can really limit strenuous activity.)

thanks dr jv. its been a year .checkup all is well. i have no upper limit. doc still does not want me to return to the 100 and 200 meters. says at my age 72 it could be too much stress on the heart. now am not sprinting. i still play tennis every day
