Interrogation

I am 60 and just had my St. Jude PM put in 2/15. I have an appt. 5/24 for a checkup. I just joined this club this morning and have been reading through everyone's posts. I have seen the reference to interrogation. What is that?

Checkup or Interrogation

This is what Webster has to say for the definition of Checkup - examination. Interrogation - Cross examination or Inquiry.

I don't know what they say on Google about checkup or interrogating a pacemaker but from my experience both terms are misused. My definition of interrogation is where a subject is questioned and the subject gives answers. A checkup is where a subject is checked out physically. Using these definitions checkup come closer to being what is done routinely to my pacemakers.

No matter it is called, it is where the information stored by the pacemaker since the last visit is downloaded just as we download information in our computer Then based on this information and what the computer sees is going on with my heart during the visit, settings changes deemed necessary are made. A checkup (physical inspection of the PM site) is usually made when the magnet is placed over the pacemaker so that the stored data can be downloaded and any changes necessary can be made.

But, since everything has to be called something, I guess one is as good as the other, but it would be nice if the same term for this procedure was used by all doctors and nurse/technicians.

If you haven't had one of these before, you will find they are very much like getting an EKG when only 2 or 4 leads are used. Also, when they place the magnet over your pacemaker you may notice what feels like a skip beat or two, but this lasts for only a few seconds. There should be no other surprises.

I had one today. They basically put a large magnet over the site & hook you to a machine & "read" the pacemaker! Very simple, painless & easy!

you will have had an interrogation done before you left hospital, its the way that they check the details on our pms.

Sorry if you were scared, it sounds like someone is going to handcuff us, put us in a cell and make us listen to simon cowell!!!
