Swimming?

Anyone ever go swimming with their pacemaker? I have been invited to go swimming this summer. I never been swimming since my pacemaker implant and back sugery. They say swimming is good for you. It's been a very very long since I went swimming. It will also depend on my energy level.

Yes, I have a pool in my back yard and swim with no problems. Start outdoing the dog paddle until you feel comfortable in the water. I have had my pm for almost three years and have swam every summer since it was installed. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes, I go swimming in the ocean without any problems, just take it easy at first until you feel stronger. You are right swimming is an excellent exercise for your heart and your back. Enjoy!

we just put in a pool in our backyard. we are really enjoying it. it is a great way to exercise and it is warm here already. i especially like it when the temp is 90 and you just need to cool off. it was the best thing we did because we just stay at home and enjoy it. so swimming is good and a gentle way to exercise. jessie

Can you swim?

Hi Karen - If you could swim before the PM you should be able to swim now. I went swimming about 2 months after my PM was inplanted. My doctor only cautioned that it be totally healed which it was. No problems and it felt pretty darn good in fact. It was a weightless and painless way to stretch the left arm/shoulder. I am not a great strong swimmer but have been swimming since early childhood. Jump in and enjoy!

Still Swimming?

Hi Karen,
I'm guessing that by now (with all the above positive encouragement) you have been swimming. How has it been? Anything different from pre-PM swimming?
I have been involved in Masters Swimming for several years which was interrupted for a few months in 2005 when my PM and I became friends.
I'm just wondering if you noticed anything different from before.
Hope that you swimming has been fun.
Peace,
Richan

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
