Mecahnical Work & PM

I'm not a professional mechanic, but have been a shade-tree mechanic more years than I like to think about. I still do most of my maintenance work on all of our vehicles and I've had a pacemaker for 11 years. The only thing I conscientiously try to avoid are the high intensity ignition systems and wires used for the past 20 or so years. Getting hit by the 60K+ volts in a plug wire could possibly upset my PM but more important to me is getting stung by that high voltage is not fun. I have a 200 amp alternator on an RV and I have been all over it while running with no problem. I know of nothing else on a vehicle I would avoid

I do try to stay at least 3 to 4 feet from running eclectic welders.

I have had my PM affected by high energy sources (security gates in department stores) a couple of times and that felt exactly like it does when they put the magnet over my PM during a checkup. If you should get too close to something that does affect your pacemaker you will probably feel it instantly as an irregular heart heat. When this has happened to me I simply got away from the source and my PM returned to normal operation.
