My defribulator started setting off store alarms in Nov. 2009 until June 2010.Then in Aug.2010 it started setting them off again.
I called Medtronic and was told they shouldn't do that.My doctors and nurses said yhey have never seen that before.
It doesn't do it in all stores. Most of the time when I tell the store employees I have a pacemaker, they let me go with no problem. At Walmart is where I have the most problems. Some of the "greeters" are very obnoxious.I'll explain I have a pacemaker and they look in my bag and scan the items I've bought and when they don't find anything wrong the can get very obnoxious.I just explain again I have a pacemaker and walk out. You'd think they could remember me the next time that happens,
So it's kind of an adventure when I go into stores.Actually I usually by my groceries at Cub instead of Walmart because of that problem.

You'd think they'd figure it out

maybe you could talk to the manager if you really want to use Walmart. I had a different problem with them & put an email on their website. Next day I got a call from the manager to rectify the problem. Worth a try. Maybe the manager will give you a "get out of Walmart wo/ a hassle"card. hah!!
Good luck,

STORE ALARMS
by pete - 2010-08-09 04:08:24
These damn store alarms a very crude in the way they work. If this happened to me over and over again I would make a GDO (GRID DIP OSCILLATOR) and stand outside the store secretly sweeping it across its frequency. This would keep the alarm going off over and over again and you could watch the fun. Its about time they came up with something reliable. Stores have no right to "search" members of the public, only the police can do that. I have set off a store alarm twice. The stores got a piece of my mind.

Start paying for the items you are carrying out of the store. LOL

PM medical card?
by Tracie H - 2010-08-10 12:08:46
Do you have a card from your pm manufacturer? If so, just whip that out and avoid the hassle. It works in an airport, so Walmart should also accept it. But, if it reassures you, this has happened to me (although not as frequently as it seems to happen to you...). It IS embarrassing. I was always terrified as I'm a teacher in a small town - how would it look for me to be accused of theft?? Yikes. So, show your card - if you don't have one, you can call your mfg'r and they should supply one to you.
Good luck!

GDO

Pete,
I haven't heard of a Grid Dip Oscillator in years. They went out with the Grid Leak didn't they.
Very handy devices though. Used them to tune up my home made ham rigs.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
target alarm

I set off the alarm at Target shortly after i had my pacemaker put in. i spoke w/the manager about it & he apologized to me. He said they had recently had their system changed & that the sensitivity of the alarm system needed tweaked. They were awesome & called me when it was corrected. i have never had another problem there. I stopped shopping at Walmart years ago...good luck there.
