Fluid retention
by IAN MC - 2013-07-31 02:07:42
Hi Duke Loads of different drugs can cause fluid retention
particularly steroids, , anti-inflammatories most blood pressure drugs and hormones ( the reason that ladies often put on weight at that time of month! )
The mechanism often involves the retention of sodium e.g. when drugs cause a lowering of Blood Pressure sodium is retained and less fluid is excreted . This can amount to several pounds in excess fluid weight.

All 3 drugs can cause fluid retention / weight gain particularly the enapril and sotalol
If the weight gain is sudden and rapid eg 5 or 6 pounds in a few days then, to be on the safe side, I'd see your Dr because sudden fluid retention can be an early sign of kidney problems or congestive heart failure.

I take sotalolum ( 3 times a day 80mg each) .. warfarin (depending on PV value) Enalapril ( 5mg) Aldactone ( half a pill ) .. as Ian said sotalolum or in Croatia ( Darobmite the brand i take) can cause weight gain in form of fluid.. The bes thing is another pill i drink Fursemid ( a diuretic).. it really helps you get any excessive fluid out of your system but be aware .. I was taking one each day.. but after a while I started feeling exhausted..so now i take one each other day to prevent exhaustion ..hope this helps .. cheers :)

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
Ian is right as usual

Just wanted to add that the excess fluid weight can bounce the BP right back up, if that's what started the vicious circle.
