pain still almost 1 year later.
I have post several times over the year about the pain and weird sensations since my ICD implantation. I have went from the severe pain during and right after the surgery to the pin prick type pain to some very painful nerve like shocky pain but no actual shocks to just plain ole discomfort around the device and some pain around it from time to time. When I went for my check in Sept the EP said it was from the leads moving. I guess he meant in my chest and not in the heart because he wouldn't have gave me an option on having it fixed. Anyway in a week I go back and I am nervous because it hurts more now than it did in Sept. and when I did the home check in December they called me and told me I needed to see the ST'judes rep. So I am a little worried but I may not tell the DR about it bothering me more now. Is it normal to still have soreness around the device and pain from time to time?

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.

I truly think you should be telling your doctors everything every time you have pain and if you've kept some kind of journal of your pain - show that to them too.
If we don't tell them that we are hurting - they think we are fine.
Yes, I think it is normal to have a bit of discomfort around the device from time to time - I've had my pacer since 2004 and the last 2 days it feels like someone is actually trying to twist it around and it's most uncomfortable, but painful no - pain is the only way our bodies can tell us something is not right, so it's up to us to relay this information to the doctors.
Don't hold back - tell your doctors everything.
Take care,
