cat scan

hi All, I am booked in to have a cat scan later in the year,to check on recent surgery I have had and was wondering if it will affect the pacemaker. Has anyone had any xrays and did it worry you?

...for them when they bring in a Labrador Retriever. The cost for the lab tests can be atrocious!!

I agree - the bill is the real concern. I have scans with contrast every six months with no effect on the PM.

No problem with Cat Scan, Pet Scan, X-ray, except when the bill comes. Then my heart races and I'm glad I have an ICD in case I need to be shocked back down. I was just told to stay away from MRI's, so I do, and doctors who won't look me in the eye.

I have been fighting breast cancer for 4 years and have undergone - at the min - 4 CTs and 2 PET scans each year. In fact, in the last 14-15 weeks, I have had 2 whole body CTs, 2 brain CTs, and 1 whole body PET scan, and am will be having another 2 CTs, PET, and bone density scan this week.

The issue with regards to the scans, for me and my drs, is not my PM but being exposed to all this radiation.

I don't know where you live, but I live in Los Angeles, and have my scans at Cedar's Sinai, cost for PET $25,000-30,000, CT cheaper, I think it runs around $10,000 so the real issue with scans - the cost
